Hi all,
I have a look on the report sent by Pond5 concerning the top sellers. A lot of tracks are not registered with a PRO.
Does it mean you have more chance to sell without a PRO registering ?
Is there someone registered with a PRO company but submitted some tracks without the PRO mentioned (As far I know you can do that if your track has not been sent to your PRO company) ?
Thanks.

I'm getting sales and all my tracks are PRO registered. What if a track is used in a commercial, or network tv/cable show? You'd be losing potentially substantial backend.

I agree with you Jsixstringgold. My tracks are also PRO registered. However, it seems the best sold are not PRO.

I'd say that 99% of the people who purchase music for professional corporate video know they won't be paying another dime for their use even when a track is PRO registered. I'd also say at least 99% of the people purchasing music for a use that would generate performance royalties know that the broadcaster pays those and they will not pay another dime unless they are the broadcaster or performance venue. These people are professionals and I think some people aren't giving them enough credit for knowing the licensing process. Those who would not know are casual users, like YouTubers who are not professionals making various types of videos. They might be scared away by PRO registration because they don't know any better.
The bottom line is whether or not you want to receive what you're entitled to earn from your work and what market you plan to target. If you don't care regardless of the market, you don't have to register your music. But if you don't register it, you can't complain if it gets used in a major royalty generating performance and you only get your tiny fee from Pond 5. Some people only compose music that they are sure is not likely to be used for anything that would generate royalties. Hence, they don't expect to ever receive performance royalties and don't want to risk having any potential customers scared off. The choice is yours.

I doubt PRO registration has much, if any, effect on sales. It can just as well be the opposite, a bigger company choosing NOT to buy a track because it's NOT PRO registered. In Germany, for example, they might require it.
By the way, that "top sellers" list sent out is not the real list of top sellers. It's just a sample picked by P5 staff from a much larger selection to avoid posting the same video clips/tracks over and over again.
Maybe they're in the top 100, or 200, and they pick randomly from there. What you see there is not the definitive top 20.

has anyone gotten 'backend' pay from a P.R.O.for work sold through P5? I don't think there's any way to see who purchased a license on our cues, so how can you know for sure anyways? unless you only work with P5 and no other libraries then you know by deduction....
