JVC unveils SDHC memory card camcorder

6hrs at 19mbs not 35mbs, so the camera is still not not the magic bullet. As usual the manufactures are playing with the numbers and it takes a closer look to know what you truly get for the money. Still a nice little camera that would be great for shooting in unobstrusive documentary style.

Jake, go get FX1000. Be like me. When we open our studio that can be one of our marketing things 'We Both have FX1000's, Making the Best Videos Imaginable'

yep normally I would mod my camera, but Im not going to bother because I still want the 5d. Don't listen to Scott.... Get the 5d :P Scott just wants to make his own "A-team" episodes, hes already saving up for the van.

Your 35mm look shots are great Jake, I think you are qualified to make an indie something something.
JHDT_Productions 12 Jan 2009 22:06
Is that what you're doing Scott?
I'm not cutting my hair into a mohawk and wearing the gold chains.

The main concern I had with the 5d was the lack of manual iris. I see what people are doing is locking AE before the shoot and that locks the iris and iso.
So maybe.........

Thanks Mark, I have a lot of fun with that thing.

It might be impractical, still don't know enough about it, but Ive already decided I want a camera with a huge sensor size. If I have to build a 35mm film camera to do it I will. Although 35mm film is really expensive (like 8 cents a foot or something.)

I spoke with a friend of mine in CA a few days ago that happens to know one of the Canon testers. One note that stuck in my head about the 5D is that the sensor really sucks up the dust. Hence, unless you happen to live near Canon, the cleaning bill will kill you. Canon does it for free if you drop it off. (About an hour or so and then you can pick it up again.) So all of you that plan on buying the 5D, you have to move over to LA. :)

lol you could always keep it in a cheap http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/475879-REG/Epic_EE0001_Elite_Mechanical_Video_Housing.html ... If it can keep water out it should keep out dust. drill a whole for the firewire. Still leaves problems with adjusting lense and recharging the battery, it could be worked out.

lol I put my old VHS camera in a cheap underwater housing unit when I was smaller so I could record in the rain.

Just FYI - you use SDHC cards with the Sony EX1/EX3s also - much cheaper than the SxS cards - see this link:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/sony-xdcam-ex-cinealta/138485-summary-sdhc-substitute-sxs-cards.html

By the way ironstrike - got a 5d the other day - too busy getting ready to move to try it out properly though. all i know so far is takes great photos and no one looks at you weirdly or asks annoying questions when you use it out in public. i've been buying up a few old nikon lenses for it.

Mark,
I didn't know there was a cheap underwater housing like that. That opens up an entire new type of video, of course using a smaller camcorder that fits in it.

Anndromeda,
did you mean Nikon or Canon lenses? Did you get an adaptor?
I knew about the SxS cards, cheap alternative.

shweeet andromeda, you should post your first 5d upload. BTW new uploads are always blurry because of the way p5 displays previews.

Be careful with it Jake, the cheap ones don't go very deep because the pressure. Also if you want to use it to record in the rain or at sea world or whatever, you might want to put a ND filter on your camera, because the plastic creates glare.
