Canon 5D MK IV

Wow Don! You've made quite the upgrades this year. Look forward to hearing what you think of the 5d Mk iv.

Had a few days to try it out. At first I thought it was a little soft like the Mk II and III. I changed to setting to "standard" from "neutral" and it makes a big difference. It appears that neutral is totally uncorrected, flat and lack of any sharpening. In Landscape or Standard the edges are crisp and sharp with no indication of pixelation or artifacts.

It is SO much smaller and lighter than my 1DX MK II.

Comparing the 1DX MK II and the 5D MK IV. I still like the 1DX MK II as far as photo and video quality. There is just a little more "punch" or clarity in it's photos and video. If I go for a hike or want to travel light the 5D will be the choice. If size and weight doesn't matter as much I will use the 1DX. That said they are really pretty darn close when pixel peeping.

The photo quality is far above the Sony RX-10 MK II or AX-100. There is really no comparison.

The video quality is again much more precise and all aspects goes again to the 5D MK IV over the same Sony 4K cameras.

The 5D MK IV does need fast CF and SD cards. DO not waste money on the PNY Elite Performance SDXC 10 U3 95 MB/s card. It will fail when recording 4K within a couple seconds. It can't keep up with the 4K data write. I have a few Lexar Professional UDMA 7 CF cards. They work fine with no buffering problem. You will need big CF cards. A 16GB card will only record a couple minutes and it's full.

So I've ordered some 128GB CF and hopeful fast enough 128GB SD cards. They will be here Monday.

So I think I've future proofed myself for another few years.

So far very impressed but get lots of 128GB memory if you are shooting 4K. I believe my existing SD cards will handle the HD video just fine but why shoot HD when the camera is made for 4K.

Shop around and bargain. I was able to get $350 off.

Here's a straight from the camera no editing or processing. Just the raw file from the cf card. I really like the ability to go into the shadows on the black cow yet not blow out the white face on the brown cow. Yes, these are my cows.

Hey these are my girls eating the remains of my halloween pumpkins. I know ... not a lot of action. Go to bed tonight thinking of these cows at prime beef, steaks or a grilled hamburger ;)

I should get some good medical / hospital shots in the next couple days. They will be more of an indication of it's capability.

Maybe this clip has a little more action, a little more detail ... getting down deep to the point ;)
