It looks like to me BMC needs to get out of the camera business and focus on their original endeavors. With the huge delays on every camera announcement and significant problems it is just too risky. They have a dream but techology is just part of their camera expertise ... yet. A camera that can't shoot over ISO 400 is almost worthless. Just because it's less than 3K for the body and shoots 4K does not give it value if it has the original black halo in the sun or headlights, white spots or missing pixels in dark areas, random line of dots, grain in the shadows ... etc etc. Not for me at any price. I guess they could send me one and I'd give it a fair review, I kinda doubt it would help build sales for them.

Remember that this was a pre-production model that was reviewed, so it isn't surprising that it has the same issues as previous BMC cameras. These issues may be corrected or reduced on newer models, or repaired before to long as happened in the pocket version. Also, as a true production camera, professional lighting setups should prevent the need for high ISO. It definitely isn't a run and gun stock camera, but on a set, studio or planned shoot, I don't rely on ISO. In fact I never turn my Canon 5D3 up over 800 for video so the difference for me wouldn't be very much. It will really depend on the style of the videographer. I would definitely do a close examination for sensor problems as soon as I opened the box. I have seen some really awesome productions shot with the original BMC on vimeo, and this one still has potential in my opinion.

The black spot is a problem with the released camera. To many people that have received theirs have published video that shows it.

I did read that the black spot on the pocket camera had been fixed. Are you talking about the 4k model? Would you mind sharing a link to the 4k camera with black dot. Everyone has 4k in their keywords for the BMCC and BMPCC so I can't find any footage from the BMPC4k with black dots.

I have the pocket camera and it was fixed.
The 4k supprisingly has it now
It's being talked (with video showing it) about on both the bmcuser.com forum as well as BMC's own forum.
I'll find the exact link and post it.

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of footage coming out from people receiving their 4K cameras that looks amazing.
I'm sure the black dot thing will be fixed in firmware soon. Probably before the camera is in stock in stores and not just shipping pre orders.
Run and gun camera its not, it wasn't meant to be. But for studio work or outdoor where you have time to setup the shot it will be great.
