Phantom 4 pro: has anyone tried it?

I thought that too .. .yesterday tried the 30P h.265 and saw something I've never seen before. Was it a flying squirrel with a cape? No.... it was banding in the sky. Never seen that with h.264. (not this particular sky (snowy blue grey gradient), or any 8 bit drone) It was fairly serious banding nasties. Visible on different monitors (5K, HD, and Laptop HD) using AE and different players. So why? I dunno. Only that one shot to compare, and wild blizzard today, so no real way to check. I'd have thought it would be the other way around.

Maybe an anomaly. Time will tell.
Mizamook 16 Mar 2017 01:02
True. Hey, Mark .. what color profile and style settings have you found to be most satisfying?

I'm pretty happy with the quality ... it's not perfect, but it is definitely very good especially considering the thing flies ...

Currently waiting for a test in real light (as in not grey and snowy) using D-Cinelike, -2 Sharpening, -2 Contrast, and -1 Color.

I shot H265 once (.mov) and can't play it. Was able to to get a glimpse of the footage (ie player shows still image, digital blocking or grey screen, then another frame somewhere down the line etc) I have the feeling the images are all in there I just can't open it...

Tried renaming it to .mp4 on my iMac 5K but it doesn't help. Any ideas how to open/convert this so I can edit the footage in FCP X?

I haven't played around a lot with the settings. I'm using the most basic, generic settings I can find, like a color profile of None. I'd prefer to have the camera doing as little as possible aside from recording an image. I did pick up some ND filters. The tests I did with h265 looked good so I'm wondering if the weirdness you had might've been from playback?

Just got in from flying over the forest in a blizzard. Using D-Cinelike, -2, -2, -1, 60P h.264. Actually very happy with the way it looks. Under more controlled circumstances will try h.265 again, specifically looking for that banding. In my inside tests, closely examining things, it was better in shading of curved objects and shadows, but I could not really tell if it was better for grading or not.

Had to turn off obstacle avoidance because the snow was so thick. I really dig the smooth design and placement of the camera ... I had ZERO problems with snow on lens.

Except for the fact that it doesn't handle well and make smooth video in wind (don't tell me that's a bad thing .. I have other drones that do much better) I'm very happy with this thing.

Very interesting thread!
@Mizamook: Could you compare the image quality to the P4 (non Pro) or the Mavic?
Mizamook 17 Mar 2017 19:24
Better! Lots better! Totally different sensor/lens/brain. Different camera. Better than both the P4 and Mavic, X3,Z3, etc.

I realized part of why I'm feeling the unit is more dodgy in gusty wind ... it's a tighter fov lens ... this is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Before you all rush out and buy ... wait a tic. I found something unpleasant. May or may not be an issue for normal people.

I always find SOMETHING. Why me?
