Hi everyone, Is it worthwhile submitting 2.7k or 4k clips?

It's worth submitting any good quality footage ;)

While 4k is absolutely cool and state of the tech-time … most of the downloads will still be 1080p these days. In some cases even HDV clips sell better than 4k material… content is king. Personally I would love to get the chance to buy and sell native RAW RED r3d files here at pond5.

artist stats show 4k clips sales at less than 1%

someone once posted that he makes more money selling 4k clips over HD.

if you need a 4K camera you might want to consider the upcoming GH4.

most TV is still 720x480, and same with youtube.

It also shows the 4K is only .82% of the products for sale. So getting 1.17% of monthly sales is not bad. At this point I would guess that most producers buying 4K are using them as HD.

Pricing just came out on the Lumix GH4---$1600.
Interestingly, my new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone shoots beautiful 4K. Where there is good light, it is stunning.

Here are some clips from the phone (not mine)

It's not so much the camera that I find expensive, it's all the peripheral gizmos: faster cards, bigger hard drives, ultra good computer, best software, and long uploads. Yes I have always found quality seductive, to a point. Has 2.7k been skipped over? Shoot either 4k or regular 1080p?

Many cell phones shoot HD and 4K but that doesn't give the best product. An example is GoPro. The original shot HD, then the HD2 was advertised as double the quality then the HD3 was advertised as double the quality again. They were all HD but at what level of quality. When a camera has a 4K quality sensor it needs a 4K quality lens. Just because the pixel size matches 4K does not mean very much. I agree the new Samsung Galaxy line does shoot good looking video but I would guess the bitrate is not up to broadcast standards. A great 4K camera with a cheap lens will not give a high quality product.

2.7K is fantastic from an editing standpoint. Allows you to re-frame and create artificial camera movements in post.
