Newbie Advise: Marketing Strategies, IS and SS?

Hi guys, I'm new at all this, still learning what to upload. I would also like to know, what type of off-site marketing strategies do you use that work? Like posting on You Tube? Working Facebook? Also, I know that IS stands for iStock, but SS? Tell me about uploading to all the different stock footage sites. Thanks for your wise advice!

Hi! Welcome aboard! SS stands for Shutterstock. Facebook off-site marketing brings good results to me. iStock is the most miserable to upload, it is most artist unfriendly. Pond5 is the most artist friendly of all the sites in the world. If you just start now it is a very difficult moment: image stock is about saturated, each site has millions of pictures of all kinds. My intention is not do discourage you, but to offer a realistic view. Wish you good luck!

P.S: Just saw your portfolio, great pictures and footage!

P.P.S: How did you manage to escape 2012?

Did ya make it to NAB, if so I missed ya.

I tried buying cheap pay per click advertising for some of my favorite clips.

I received a lot of 'add to bins' but no sales. I spent about $100 total trying.

@tiberio

That means your strategy is not functioning for you, but your spending is small compare with put an advertisement by Google. :)

Hi Rekindle, didn't make it to NAB, was encamped at the north shore of Lake Meade, taking footage. (Including some of the black helicopters menacing the Bundy Ranch, though didn't know it at the time. Maybe I should post that to Pond5? LoL)

Hi Ionescu! I started planning my "escape from California" and my day job in 2012; figured, might be a good idea to get out before the 12/21/2012 date, just in case! ;b I am not one to be discouraged, although I realize the market is saturated, and I may not have anything all that unique to offer, but here goes. Thanks for the compliments on my footage, like I said, I am new to this, but do have an artistic eye, and did do time in art school... "color and composition"

Tiberio, PPC is a waste of $$$ in my experience, I do have websites, and have tried it. Unethical entrepreneurs (also the likes of Yahoo and Google) will pay people pennies to click on ads on their websites, to collect the $$$ from the advertisers, and of course, these clickers have no interest in what you do, or any desire to buy anything. After I received 2-3 class action lawsuit letters suing the likes of Yahoo and Google for false PPC practices, I won't even consider it.

I have almost 1,000 subscribers to my fulltime RVing You Tube channel, though I don't think many of them are in the market for footage, but plan today to start uploading samples of my Pond5 footage, and I have a strategy in mind. We'll see how it goes.

The Pond5 community seems very nice, I am glad to be here!
