"Sparklies" on clip previews.

A few days ago I started noticing what, in the days of analogue satellite TV, would have been called "sparklies" appearing on some clip previews.

On dark areas of the image, particularly where the dark areas meet lighter areas, there are hundreds of little white dots appearing briefly. Three examples follow, two which show the problem well, one which does not have the problem.

No sparklies on this much later (judging by the clip ID) upload :

I'm not, of course, suggesting that the original uploads are at fault. Is it just my PC creating the effect, or is there a problem?

P5 is messing with the preview generating code at the moment. I've noticed that previews are a lot darker than the normal clip, so some previews look really bad when the clip itself looks fine.

I'm on a mac and don't see any 'sparklies' in any of the above clips, could it be your monitor?

weird.. Did this just start happening? I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't point it out though.

So you're getting it too, Scott? Yes, this is a fairly recent thing - maybe a week, from what I can recall. I first noticed it on the clips on the front page.

It's really obvious on my desktop machine, but I've now had chance to check on the laptop, and there are no "sparklies" on this display. Weirder.

I'll try and get a screen shot.

maybe you (and Scott) just need to calibrate your monitor.

Actually, looking at it again, I think the bottom eye one was from the green screening... I might have been drunk also earlier.

Kim, Scott's problem isn't with his monitor. He's be standing in front his laser to long. Can't see worth a damn.

I should have left it another 24 hours before opening my trap, as the effect isn't happening on either of my PCs now. Another case solved.

Oh well another case of shoe in mouth disease.
