Google search

Just wondering about Google search or even P5 search criteria. A few years ago P5 had a much different way of doing keywords. It had top five keywords first. Then they got rid of that and said to put most important keywords first ... Then ... they re-sorted all keywords in alphabetic order saying that all keywords had same priority and order made no difference. Now other agencies are saying to put most important keywords first. I agree with that. A lazy "spider' might only look at the first half a dozen or so keywords and stop looking at the most important ones that start with "M" or "P" or even "Z".

All sales are great but it does seem that more older clips are selling than newer ones. For me I know my newer ones, at least, I consider are better quality after doing this for so many years. Would definitely hate to jinx things and slow old clip sales down since they are a major part of my sales.

Also I really have doubts about the "click" category keywords such as "medium shot", "natural lighting", "archival", "contemporary", "young adult(20s)", "telephoto lens", "1970s" etc etc etc. Not really sure if Google likes these types of searches or even if P5 buyers use them.

Now with 18,000 products here at P5 it would be a disaster to have to fix the keywords if that is one of the problems. There was a lot of negative chatter when things went to alphabet order, sure hope that was a good thing to do and maybe this is no factor.

What does P5 and Google and P5 buyers thing? Are all keywords still equal value in searches are are some more important?

Rekindle, I don't pay any attention to those category keywords, such as "medium shot". Unless you are painfully short of keywords, they just waste the allotted keyword limit. In regards to your first comment, I think the keywords in the FILE NAME and the TITLE are heavily weighted in the Pond5 internal machine to replace the priority word order. Certainly worth loading the file name and the title with descriptive and search popular words. The description box is anyones guess. I repeat the title and I try to create/find relevant copy. With the vast volume on clips on every conceivable topic, I think the odds of new clips rising up and selling get slimmer and slimmer. Therefore, less literally descriptive tags and more emotionally descriptive tags might give an edge. I have been busy deleting a massive amount of non-performing files such as PAL, NTSC and small format copies I created. I think, having non-performing files drags down results as a contributor as we are ranked by our performance worth (I guess) inside the internal search engine also. Hard to know these Pond5 trade secrets. Makes for a weird business model for contributors. Best guess and upload.
