Drone footage and registration requirements

I got a Phantom 3 Pro last week and I want to start uploading footage. Do you have to register the drone for commercial use for stock footage. I would assume so, it seems pretty straight forward but I saw some other forums where people were claiming that for footage you could register your drone for hobby use. I tried to find clarification and got conflicting answers.

If you live in USA soil, at this time there are many conflicting answers and even a law suit against the federal government. In addition you have state laws and even city laws. Knowing your city laws may be more important because of the current state of "dronephobia." It will take some time to really know what is going on. I will tell you this, if I had a drone I would exert my right to earn a living and sell my stock. I would just stay away from the no fly zones and do common sense flying.

The AMA is recommending to it's members not to register until the deadline. The registration fight is not over yet. Don't hire to take photos or video. For example if you are hired to shoot a wedding, hired to shoot a crowd during a carnival or survey aerial photos of a farm it's commercial.

Thank you for your information as well. I really appreciate both responses.

Officially, it is against FAA "rules" to use any type of aerial vehicle for commercial purposes (including "drones") unless you are licensed commercial pilot.
Hobby use is permitted. But according to current regulations, shooting stock footage over US soil requires a commercial pilot's license.
