Inspiration

Hello everyone!
What do you do if you run low on all possible sources??
Inspiration often comes during a period of emotional upheaval. And sometimes in a dream.
In my opinion, as the appetite comes with eating, inspiration comes only in the creative process.
What do you think??

Go on a long drive, all alone. We get ideas for book and scripts this way. Take a pen and paper, or even a recoring device. Turn off the radio and the cell phone. Might help.

Your post/question has stuck in my mind since it first popped up. That's a very personal question!

Here are a few things I thought of:

For music, especially rhythms, hang out near machinery, printing presses, trains, and groove with it. See what you can make out of it - can you build on top of it, even use the sounds you record as a bed? Turn your own stuff backwards.

Read a book you normally wouldn't, explore a music genre you don't like, talk to people that bug you and try to find a reason they should be allowed to exist. Watch films you would normally not, even bad ones. Look for the concept "I love what you're "trying" to do..." Explore especially obscure, generally older foreign films, as they tend to make you think and question...avoid blockbusters and mainstream stuff as it is more likely to answer its own questions, and leave you empty. A man who questions is full of life. Start arguments on forums. Take on a new instrument. Invent a new instrument and create music around it. Change your personal policy on drugs and alcohol....if you do, then stop. If you don't, then dabble. Help other people with their own creative projects. Teach someone something. Give music lessons for cheap. Get a crappy job for the sake of doing something totally beneath you and find the art inherent in, say, washing dishes or cleaning gutters. Go convince a dour, jaded, and lonely older person that there is hope for the world. Keep yourself too busy to get everything done, that way you learn to appreciate every moment you get to create, and it keeps you from getting too comfortable. Remember that we all have a death sentence.

Movielighter's suggestion is a good one too. I feel the urge to do just that - it's been too long.

Oh oh....I forgot one!

Get a new pedal or FX processor, and hook it up backwards to self-feeding busses, and groove off of that!

Glad you're working. Keep us posted when you resurface!
