Canon EF 100mm f2.8L IS Macro USM

or

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens

or

Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L USM Telephoto Lens

My heart is set on the 100mm L Macro. Have no idea how it does on a 60D or for video.

or

Canon 50mm 1.4 + Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro

If you are getting started get the 70-200 f/4 IS. If you can afford get the f2.8 IS and have more low light capability.
I have the 70-200 f/4 L, 70-200 f/2.8 IS L, 24-70 L, 100-400 L and a few more. I'm very happy with the "L" versions of the Canon lens.

I would recommend getting lenses that will also fit the full frame Canon in case you decide to upgrade your body. If possible don't get the EF-S mounts. They are good but limited if you upgrade the body.

What about the 70-200 F4.L (non IS) and the 50 1.4...

But damn, both those Macro lenses are sweet.

@QuinEtiam: What do you want to do? Only video or photography too?

For video you might get away with old lenses (I mean really old) from fleemarket or ebay. I've paid 8 Euro for a super duper 135mm f2.8 Yashica ML lens. It's of course full manual no electronics but the quality is superb. Zeiss Biometar...

Big white lenses do open doors. If you look professional it is much easier to get past the ropes that hold back the amateurs.

I NEVER spend more than $100 on a lens without renting one first to try it. There have been too many times that a lens has been highly recommended and when I try it, I find out it doesn't work for me.

This is especially true when you buy non ER-S lenses for a crop sensor camera. I read a ton of great reviews on a Canon lens and the sample images were great. But they were shot on a 5D Mark II (full sensor) and the lens didn't work well with my T2i (APS-C sensor).

BTW, a white lens isn't the only thing that gets you places you normally can't go. A batter grip, a flash bracket and a large flash do the same thing.

Dave,

Any word if the current Canon lens promotion will be extended ?

Current promotion seems to be running through 2/4/12 .... tomorrow.

No idea. Supposedly there's a couple of new L lenses being announced next week as well, but it's generally believed that will be pushed back to April.

The only reason I know about the T4i/70D announcements is because a local Canon rep told me when I asked about upgrading my T2i.
