Set the price for me?

I recently uploaded and edited some clips. Set the prices randomly and checked the "Set the price for me" box.
All the clips were approved at the price I had entered... no prices set for me.
What did I do wrong?

I priced a clip once at 1,000,000 as an experiment, and it was approved like that.
For you though, I think you are right in the ball park....seems most clips are priced around $50 - variations from $30-$100 are not at all unusual. As you build your portfolio you will sell (or not sell) clips, and as those sales accumulate (and your numbers increase) you will see trends suggesting that your prices are right (or wrong) for your particular style of shooting/subject matter, etc.
Pricing is a subject of infinite depth.

It might mean you set the right price.

OK - cheers thanks guys. I've got 100 clips of what I would call 'average' footage shot interlaced HDV. And some more recent stuff shot 25p with a driftwood hacked Panasonic Lumix GH2 with nice prime lenses. Awesome scenery shots. Might to the 'average' stuff at $30 and scenics at $50 and see what happens.

I want the Pond5 curator to 'set the price for me.' however, when I check that box, it still insists I include a price, and the item goes out at that price. I would think that if I want the curator to set the price, that I should leave the price blank. How do I do this?

One thread is enough ... really. Asking the same subject on multiple threads will make everyone ignore your questions. Good Luck.

I'm using the GH2 with one of the 176mb Driftwood hacks as well. I typically go with $40-$50 as my baseline for my footage and adjust upwards if it has a model release or if I think it has more value. I still have some HDV stuff from my HV 40 that is in the $30-$40 range. As Mizamook said, see what sells and what has a lot of views and activity and go from there.

I looked at the sales stats, and I seem to remember that the average price per video clip sold was around $29. so I would recommend that as an average price point for video. you can look it up under the 'Artist Resources' link in the page footer.

That takes into account the CG and animations also not just video. Being here since the beginning I would never recommend $29. That is not a true representation of "video" sales. When you start selling 15-20 and more from a single agency a week and make a couple thousand a month then I think your suggestions are valid. It appears that you are asking a lot of questions but don't listen from other successful money making footage artists. Go back and read the last few years of threads, that is only part of the story. Start making money here at P5 and you will have a great following.
