FTP down?

vadervideo 15 Aug 2008 20:58
As of today I can no longer connect to the ftp server(s) - this is what i get back (FileZilla)

Response: 150 Accepted data connection
Response: 226-ASCII
Response: 226-Options: -l
Response: 226 0 matches total
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Any issues?

I get right in. I use Filezilla too.
Did you do the last update they put out? I did and after that I had some problems connecting so I downgraded back to the previous version, but that was last week.

It seems to work as expected. FTP has one "control" session in which it sends commands and it opens "data" sessions per data transfer. If i remember correctly, the output of file listings goes over the data channel too.

Depending on people's firewalls and such, the default behavior of letting the ftp server connect back to the client isn't possible so it's usually a good idea to enable passive mode which makes the initiative to the connection originate from the client instead.

If you have the site manager open in Filezille,
Click on a ftp server,
Click advanced,
Please try different "Passive transfer mode settings".

My filezilla version (2.2.29) is fine with "Active" which clearly shouldn't be possible since I'm on a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_address_translation router. If they fixed this on newer versions of Filezilla, this the timeout would be the expected result.

Best regards,
Marcus

Ya latest version of filezilla had some connection bugs, I also had to re-install then worked fine. I'm running version 3.1.1.1 and it's ok now.

Since the last uograde I uploaded successfully - so that unfortunately is not the issue. WHat is even weirder is that an old password also connects even though it is inactive and shouldn't

I recently made (hopefully) all uses of the username case insensitive. Before that, it could have been two different entries for Vadervideo and vadervideo.

Is it possible that you've used the username with different caps? when setting the password on the New Upload page?

Best regards,
Marcus

Nope - noen of that - I found the problem and it is a doozy.. When Windows media Center is in record mode (recording something) it creates all kinds of havoc with the ports and data transmissions. I didn't realize the damn thing was on in the background - since a week already.. no wonder one of my drives was so full. :) - In any case, got it working now. So make a note, Windows Media Center and real computer work don't mix.
