Video tripod

I think it's time I bought a video tripod with a half ball system that's suitable for plane travel and carrying all day.

I want something seriously light and easy to pack for flights - I've got plenty of old heavy tripods to use when out in the car.

I've come upon this carbon fibre tripod that looks as though it fulfills what I need and was wondering if anyone has tried it.

Manfrotto MVK500C

3.4 Kg. Somewhat heavy to carry all day long.

The lighter the better but can't see how anything decent could be much lighter - that weight does includes the head.

Have you looked at Sirui? I bought one of their carbon travel tripods recently and think it's decent. Depending on the size and weight of the camera, they have models that are as light as 0.7 kg.

"seriously light and easy to pack for flights "

That is relatively speaking. 3.4kg is not light for me. ;)

steffhoffer: I've just had a look at them - does yours have a half ball for levelling?

patuwe97: What do you use that's light?

Mine is Benro carbon 2.5-2.6kg together with Fluid head (other name). This is already quite heavy for me for daily carrying...
For serious travelling / walking in city, 1.5kg is maximum.

No, it doesn't. It has a regular small sized ballhead. The model I bought is probably not what you are looking for, but they have a lot of other models that are also a lot lighter than the Manfrotto. I use mine for the GH4 and it's decent, but obviously less stable than a heavier tripod would be. Mostly for filming in situations with little or no wind.

Stef

Here is a similar like yours, but much cheaper. US$72 including shipping.
3.5kg is still too light / unstable when you have wind. ;)

Thanks, that looks very similar! Unsurprisingly perhaps, it is also Chinese (like Sirui).
