Adobe dropping QT

After uploading the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC there is a notice saying that in the future update, QT (Quick Time) will no longer be supported.

So P5 what are you hearing and what should we be working towards, especially those who use PC Windows computers? What will and is the long term format and package? For many of us who shoot high end cameras with very high bit rates it seems that downgrading to h264 and 100 bit rate is not the way buyers will want these much higher quality clips to be sold in. Yes I know h264 sells and those who shoot with 60 or 100 bite rate, h264 matches perfect.

Will the death of QT affect long time sales of existing QT files?

P5 you have the people to know these answers so we can better prepare for the future. Not guesses but technical guidance.

P5 has a close tie with Adobe, what are they saying about format and package to use to future proofing?

Haha - remember when Apple "dropped" Adobe Flash? Its payback time! I hope Apple gets crushed by Google/Android/Samsung/Adobe! Cant stand Mac products!

Agree but QT is the basic gold standard of footage and has been for years. At this point I don't see a new standard with a good bit rate available that users use or understand. h264 has too slow of a bit rate and h265 just has not caught on like they hoped.

Adobe is saying both input and export of QT will soon not be possible with Premiere Pro.

Even after effects ??

QT Pro works in AE As well as Premiere without any problems. And the only noticed about QT is that there will no longer be support for legacy 32-bit QT in a future version of Premiere Pro.

Yes it doesn't say which future version but a warning to stop using legacy QT. Both import and export.

Waiting to hear from P5 on what they recommend in order to maintain higher bit rate processing.

That would be a major PITA. If Adobe drops QT import & export on their products then they can stop selling their CC altogether. Others like FCPX and DaVinci Resolve will predominate the market then. On Windows there is the AVID DNX... codec but no stock agency supports it. They want ProRes, H264 or the the ancient PhotoJPEG.

H264 is ok but top end cameras shoot in high bit rate of 400-800 and it will not support this. If you use h264 might as well stick with cell phone, GoPro or any of the less expensive 60-100 bit rate cameras.

This started last April when Apple dropped support/ further development on Quicktime for Windows.

Adobe said their long term strategy was baking in native code that supports different codecs but didn't give a timeline.

What Adobe just announced was the warning it was dropping support for certain 32bit QT codecs (not all QT codecs) on new versions of CC. Good news is if this is worrying you, you can always choose an "older" version of Premiere through CC and still have support.

This is also lining up with Apple saying High Sierra is the last OS to fully support 32bit code, with limited support coming in whatever they release next.

@MJ flash was great technology back in the day that didn't adapt to the realities of the time. The reality is that people wanted fast mobile devices with decent battery life and fewer security holes.

Apple never "dropped" flash by the way. They made the choice not to support it on iPhone while still fully supporting it on their desktop operating system. The world seems to be doing okay without a dependency on flash these days...
