Are DSLR in video overdone or even dead?

ironstrike 29 Sep 2010 18:13
Exactly!
Today there are all kinds of vehicles, SUVs, vans, electric, race cars, specialty vehicles like school buses....tractors. No one uses a model T-ford anymore.

There will be many variations of large sensor cameras in the future as well.

Hold out till spring. Sony and Panny will be the first to come out with a near full frame dslr chip in camcorder body. It's supposed to be a windowed design with some kind of adaptive bayer mask that reduces the aliasing. The Sony NEX-VG10 uses a APS-C sensor with e-mount lenses. Maybe I should hold onto my Panny M4/3 lenses just in case...

I do have to admit that many times the Canon 5D MKII has a jello look. With a slight amount of wind and a background that is mostly a single color with depth the result is a jello movement.

StockShooter where are you?

I should have listened to him a year ago. I believe he was one pro shooter that never jumped on the vDSLR bandwagon. He may be older than Moses and half senile but he knows his stuff. Probably done gone fell himself into a crevice whilst cleaning his hearing aid.

Any camera with a CMOS sensor will have jello, the RED has jello about equal to a 7d. You can fix it in After effects. Theres an expensive plug in that can fix it too.

heres the thing though, I prefer the DSLR ergonomics. I talked about the 5d wayyy before philip bloom had one. I know thats weird, but everyone has different preferences.
Maybe Im an insignificant part of the the consumer market?
Maybe not....

Just because a new camera comes out doesnt mean everyone will buy it.
Some people prefer vans, luxury cars, trucks...maybe I prefer a delorean?

I want a DeLorean with dual flux capacitors and 7 somethingD's mounted all around for 3D time-lapse stuff. :)

I really like my 5D MKII and to a slightly lesser amount my 7D. There are definitely limitations but for most stagnant subjects or studio work they are great.
My big F-350 diesel 4x4 will easily drive right over your Delorean and I'd think it was a speed bump ;)
ironstrike 30 Sep 2010 18:58
Yeah but I went back and time and disabled your f350 engine :P :)

I found a way to shoot stable handheld shots with the 5d and no extra support system. Ill give you a hint..... the strap can be used to do this.

"I feel like the camera is less and less important the more I advance."

Couldn't agree with you more. Most important part is that accessory behind the viewfinder...

Yeah - but at least I would film it and get me some of those $1000.00 clips! - So there! ;P
