Ryan sez:

"While we look to price our content at a premium to those competitors (given the quality and breadth of our collection), our objective remains to grow our business. In this particular case, we won this deal from Getty about 3 years ago where they were already purchasing at very low prices and we would not have secured the deal had we not matched the existing pricing."

Yup, what I said. Growing their business is the main goal (nothing wrong with that) and if that means giving away our content, that's what they'll do (everything wrong with that for us contributors...that is, unless you're OK with your work being given away, then it's all good right?). Again, a few dollars per clip times thousands is a good payday for P5/SS. A few dollars per clip to us is insulting

The newbies here don't have the context of having their content licensed for the rates we used to get. Having their work given away, to them, is normal, business as usual. Well, it is now

@ Mizamook "I'll admit freely that I know little, and like any peasant (defined here as a supplier of goods or services who has to agree to a disagreeable contract, or leave) I have concerns."

Yep - leaving is the alternative albeit not a desirable one.

But there's little/no viable alternative when all major platforms are using the same business model. Going elsewhere is essentially resigning from offering stock media to a large market.

IMO - how we got here is not so much due to the subscription/packaged assets model but instead the crowd-sourced supplier model. Those who leave are readily replaced. In the crowd-sourced model that larger platforms use suppliers have no role in determining sustainable subscription/package license prices of their assets instead of radically discounted prices.

Difference between the company and the artists is that the company will happily take 75000 dollars over probably a long period of time its money in the bank, but any artist approached and offered 3 dollars take it or leave it privately would leave it, I haven't had a low price yet, but a large chunk of my video and images is Aviation, i spend around $25 to get to the airport, I work in all weathers hot and cold so if potentially I have to sell 9 videos from a single day to just cover my expenses, not my time or editing time doent fill me with joy , I am exclusive so I don't see a reason to offer what would be an exclusive image or video for $3, maybe it's time that the buyers start to realise the efforts put in to supply that video or image

The thing is... If you are spending money on production (sets, props, actors, etc..) you can't recoup that money if it's selling for $3. And I am not exclusive, but I agree that if clips are EXCLUSIVE they should be protected from these lowball clients/contracts. Otherwise, what's the point of being exclusive at all beyond a small extra percentage?
