NEW - Canon T5i and Canon SL1

Great camera. Still have moire issues, but not as bad as my T3i. Also, the rolling shutter is still there, but again, doesn't seem as bad as others.

But for detail and sharpness, you can't compare it to anything else in it's class and price point (not including the BMPCC since it's not out yet.)

I shot this with it this past weekend.

You can see the moire and rolling shutter issues in some of these shots. Buildings are not the ideal subject for a camera like this, and the boat I was on shaked very minimally, but enough to cause issues with the rolling shutter in some places.

I suspect the BMPCC would do better with the buildings and moire, but probably would still have the rolling shutter issues in this situation.

Maybe I should have had the image stabilization on?

From cameras I've owned, the image stabilization is only good for handheld photos. On video it attempts to stabilize motion and causes a lot of jello and distortion; so instead of removing movement it makes motion. I always leave IS off for video.

I was just wondering if the IS would counteract the motion/vibration of the boat I was on enough to help with the rolling shutter.

If you have Premier Pro CS6 there is a rolling shutter and warp stabilizer fixes. If you use warp stabilizer when the jerky video is too much it will manufacture a rolling shutter or jello look. You can try IS but I don't think in video mode it will help ... I may be wrong since I've never tried it. Good test to try.

I understand that the IS in Panasonic lenses are designed for video. If you were using your pany 2.8 then it has Power Image Stabilization instead of Mega Image Stabilization. Power Image Stabilization is better (more gyros) .

T2I in the middle of San Juan Bay (IS on - 30p)(no post stabilizaton):

GH3 in the middle of San Juan Bay (IS on - 60p)(no post stabilization)

GH3 from ferry boat (IS on - 60p)(no post stabilization)

I love my GH3.

Next time turn on your Power Image Stabilization.

Good to know the difference between mega and power stabilization. I was wondering about that.

I have made ground test with the GH3 on a tripod with IS on and IS off and unlike in the T2i (with no expensive lenses), the shot in the GH3 is not ruined.

IS on plus 60p (IPB) to 30p is just great. Can not do this in the T2i:

(no post stabilization)

The best part is that in all the places a went into no security guard came to me to say "no professional photography allowed" "you need a permit".

"Oh ok, how are you liking the GH3? Panasonic seems to have a good handle on vivid colors with their videocameras, I'm curious if the same is true of the GH3."

Redmoon:

In this moment in time in mid june if you are not in a hurry, I would wait for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera that will be available next month.

I needed a camera now, so I bought the GH3 and because of the reasons stated in the next paragraph.

If you need a camera that will also work satisfactorily for long interviews, weddings, ENG etc., I will pick the GH3 over the Canon Rebels.

If you have a big pocket, go for the MK III so you can latter use your Canon lenses for the 4K Black Magic Cinema Camera. MHO
