Hi,
Are clips from the Canon HV20 video camera still good for Pond5?
It's been a long time since I did any videos and now that I've retired I have more time to play about with these things.
Are there any relatively inexpensive digital video cameras good enough nowadays?
Thanks,
Susan

It's okay but nowadays there are better solutions without tape. I can highly recommend the Panasonic TM900 series with 3MOS chips in it at 1080p at 60fps. It's one of the best consumer camcorders. You can find used ones on ebay for around 450,- bucks. If you want a new one the HC-X929 is the way to go.
For more info here is the famous TM900 thread: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/panasonic-avccam-camcorders/491883-panasonic-tm900-users-thread.html

I still get a lot of sales from my old Canon HV-20 clips. It will work fine but the newer cameras have better clarity, contrast, lower noise and higher transfer rates. To learn how to get into the video market it's a good start. Heck I have an almost new Canon XH-A1 that is a great camera but it sits in a box no longer used because of the quality of the newer cameras. Good luck.

I just sold one of my old HV40 (essentially the same thing as a HV20) clips the other day.

Superb little camera with great image quality. Of course as time progresses better cameras get on the market. Like Michael & Don, I also regularly sell clips made with my (now terminated) HV20. Go for a newer model if you can though.

Just remember one thing (probably the most important of all). It's not the camera, but rather the person behind the camera that makes it happen. Camera envy is an expensive way of life. :)
