How to correct a shot with movement by wind ?

BunFest 12 Sep 2014 15:08
I shot lock-up footage with tele lens, the result was a bit movement in between the whole footage by the wind (even just a bit of wind, it hurt my shot. I know, I need to avoid wind.). The movement is not like panning, roller shutter effect, but move by wind.

I tried warp-stabilizer and Rolling-shutter-repair with my Ae6, did not help at all. I wonder if there is any method for repairing this problem. Any idea is appreciate !

Thanks

I find this type of shakiness you describe is sometimes almost impossible to correct.Screenshots would help.Is it stills from dslr?

Try out the Mercalli PlugIn!

Can you describe the results you got from Warp Stabilizer?

I used warp stabilizer on a bunch of footage given to me that was shot with a longish lens, on a cheap-o tripod, in high winds and it repaired it beautifully. If the shot is static, lock it in by selecting NO MOTION instead of SMOOTH MOTION,

You need to make sure that you do mask out any motion that could throw it off. Put the clip in a comp and then mask off anything that is moving including people, clouds, trees etc. Then put that comp in a new one and track that. Normally that will work 90% of the time and get rid of any of the crazy warping you see. Alternatively if it is just x/y motion you can pick a point an use a single tracker to stabilize. I do that quite often as well.

Thanks for all your suggestion. However it did not help. Warp Stabilizer helped my windy traffic footage, but not this one. In the traffic footage there is lamp, straight line, etc for stabilizer for a guide. It is helpless for tree.

Thanks for all your contribution to this topic. It is good for trying out. I will just leave it as it is.

akennedy: Thanks for that suggestion. I'll look for a tutorial on doing comps and masks as I have only just got AE and haven't yet found my way round it.

I'm having terrible problems with some shots I did from the top of an open bus. Maybe when everything is moving there's no hope.

I used to brag that i had access to some pretty nice software and the knowledge to correct most fotage, and over the years, and after losing a lot of shots in my lifetime some of which will propably never be recreated in their uniqueness,i decided that the best software is a very good tripod with a head to accompany.

I agreed totally. Plus one must have a relative heavy camera so the wind can't make it move. Or use some other thing (umbrella) to block the wind when it blow in one direction. In my case, the camera is just light and little wind will be a killer for the footage.

Thanks for your input to this matter.
