Shutter Stock keywording

I have heard from many people over time that Shutter Stock has the best keywording setup of any site. I suggest that Marcus (or Tom maybe) sign up with a BS account and look at how they do it in order to improve p5.
Yeahhhhh
Also I noticed on a startup site, that they had a checkerboard background for clips with an alpha channel. I think thats better than having a black background because the checkerboard is like the "universal" symbol of the alpha channel. Some buyers here complained a while back when they purchased a clip they thought was transparent was actually black. Anyway I think the checkerboard thing is better.

I much agree on the checkerboard thing. For pre-keyed clips this makes lots of sense. Also, there si lots more money in pre-keyed stuff as not only are we giving them great stock footage, but also have removed lots of the grunt work.

I respectfully disagree about Shutterstock's keywording system. At one time, I would copy my keywords from Pond5 when uploading the same clips to Shutterstock. After implementing a spreadsheet system for my clips, I just copy & paste from the spreadsheet. Pond5 is once again way ahead of the curve by having their system automatically add commas. When I first began, commas weren't necessary. For those sites that require commas, I copy from my spreadsheet, paste to MS Word, do a find & replace to replace the spaces between words with commas, then copy & paste the keywords to the other sites. It's extra work that really adds up for those of us who shoot stock footage regularly. Pond5 has always been the highest revenue-producing site for me, and it has always had the best design for keywording with templates. Now if they could only get the audio template system to work.

I haven't used SS in a few years... I only have like 20 clips on there anyway.
I heard from several other people it was easier. I guess thats not the case?

I just want to be able to "copy from another clip"... There's a site that I use where it has a dropdown of the last 100 clips I uploaded and will allow me to copy everything from that clip. It's great when I'm doing similar batches.
I'd also like to see most of the features from the music/sound submit implemented with video.

SS requires more keywords because they only have two categories, description and keyword. It's simple but also restrictive. SS is not a site for P5 to emulate. IS is a nightmare with all the check boxes and then additional check boxes, way to cumbersome for mass uploading and keywording. For me P5 is just right, takes a very short time to adequately describe and keyword a clip.

Dave is totally right, that copy from another clip thing is great. To bad they don't have images to go with it.

you don't have to have commas on SS you do on IS though, SS will allow just a space, been doing it for years with photos.
hate the IS format because it only takes the 'correct' version of a word and doesn't allow for interpretation. ie/ I have a photo of an electrical bus, it is a trade name to describe electrical parts, but with the IS system the only options are school bus or tour bus and some other bs, so if an electrical company or contractor is looking for an electrical bus it will be hard for them to it locate on IS.

SS is the fastest site that someone can enter the keywords, far beyond maybe 3 maybe 4 times.. and the IS is the exact opposite, the slowest one.. on the other hand, IS makes very good thing with asking correct verison of the word. interpretation might not be problem with english speaker countries, but what about the rest of the world? SS can not comunicate with other contries because of the funny translations. They restricted with only english speaker costumers. As I know (correct me If I mistaken) pond don't have translation system yet. However, if they deside, they will exactly do better than SS because of the many checkboxes in the system.
I only claim problematic issue in keywording, sometimes plural keywords don't accepted by system. for example if you do this:
city, "city light", background,
city "city light" background
first one won't accepted as it is, must be like the second one. However, many other system works with the comma. So we should remove the commas which takes time and sometimes forget to remove while entering keywords for bunch of footage.. I wish the system don't have a problem with the first one..
