Is this New York City?

hi fellow pond5ers,

can anyone help me identify this footage:

Skyline Footage - 1930s Its from the 1930's and I believe its NYC, though i've looked at old photos of Manhattan from the period and nothing looks similar?

Any vintage NYC experts in the house?! :0)

it does not look like new york city to me. I lived in manhattan for 7 years.

NYC for sure.

the bridge shown at the beginning of the video does NOT exist in new york city.

First off you still a twinkle in someones eye when that footage was taken so how can you be so sure that's even a bridge.

I think this is a jetty, not a bridge, and I have seen it before. And although I am not sure really this is NYC, there are not any other cities I know of which have this waterfront and skyline combined. Can you think of another one? Detroit, Chicago? I think it's lower Manhattan seen from Governors Island. The skyscraper which appears mid pan is the Empire State Building. Prior to that the Chrysler building with it's identifying silhouette goes past. Could be wrong, but I don't think so.

thanks everyone for your help. and mr. tbmp i'm leaning towards NYC as well.. there's a pretty distinctive building that's mid-frame at 0:08, which i think is the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woolworth_Building (built 1913).

Almost positive that is the Chicago skyline and that big pier jutting out is called Navy Pier.

You have to remember that a lot of those buildings around that era were built in that art deco style (which I love) and a lot of them have similar characteristics. I could be wrong though.

it is not the empire state building. it looks very very similar, but the empire state building has a triangular piece on top beneath the spire, and this one doesn't

also that object, the jetty or pier, never existed on the east river, there are absolutely no piers of any sort on the east river, only the hudson side.

based on the height of the object, it is obviously a bridge, similar to the type crossing the thames.
