5D vs FX1000 tests

Hmm,
I wouldn't take apart the lens unless you have access to a lab type clean room.
Even then once you take apart the lens it looses the nitogen that is inside the lens to stop condensation.

Is it noticable when filming? I have a couple of old lenses that has some dust specs but you can't see it at all in the photo.

Does the eyelash show up in your shots?
ironstrike 8 Mar 2009 04:09
No it doesn't show up, but so far everything has been shollow DOF with that lense. Its made of steel, and its been dropped in water, (and under water for quite some time) and it doesn't zoom, which Im OK with anyway. Its very heavy even though its tiny. Its similar to this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Asahi-Pentax-Super-Takumar-50mm-f-1-4-M42-SPOTMATIC-EX_W0QQitemZ270353073968QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCamera_Lenses?hash=item270353073968&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 although mine is older.

I guess I could take it to a camera cleaning place. It works very well I like it the most out of all the old lenses I have. (which I inherited BTW)

Yeah I wouldn't want to work under the command of bridezilla. Yikes! Plus they would probably want some song I didn't have the rights to which would add potential legal problems for me, (not that that is likely)

Hi!

Some years ago I was an inspector in one of stock agencies and had a possibility to check hundreds of photos everyday. I can tell that all Canon DSLR cameras had a dust spots. Without looking into EXIF you can easily say 'THIS is a Canon camera'. Olympus DSLR cameras practically had no or little dust spots. You can easily see dust spots on a blue background. I have no idea about dust spots in new Canon DSLR cameras.

Few advices:
- periodically make test shots with different settings of blue screen in RAW format and save these shots for reference in a future.
- change lenses in a very clean environment, holding camera down (like Jake said)

Interesting, thanks for the info!

I wonder what it is about the construction of canon cameras that causes problems? No matter I will just stick with one lense, the one that has full fstop range, zooming is considered cheesy by film people anyway, although it was popular in films during the 1960s and the 1970's. The startsky and hutch movie had zooming to parody that style, same with Austin Powers.

What I can do though, because I am fairly advanced in after effects, I can actually remove dust spots with certain combinations of displacement effects.

Can you see any single dust spot in your Canon images? Dust spots don't look as a dead pixels (which usually are 1-2 pixels) but rather large 10-20 pixels diameter round spots. You can automate the removal of dead pixels wit actions but I'm not sure how to automate removal of dust sposts because they can appear randomly and their position in a sequence of thousands of shots is not fixed.

Right now there is no dust, becuase the camera is new and I have been incredibly careful about changing lenses. But yes I could remove dust spots in video, If I wanted to I could probably remove watermarks from videos, which is why I suggested to pond5 a long time ago to make the watermarks moving, but I don't think most people know enough about after effects to do that. Thats kinda advanced anyway.

Here is a http://dinolarablog.com/?p=3220 to a blog and highlight video of the "Worlds first all 5D wedding video" by some of the worlds best wedding videographers(who happen to be from the Philippine's). They used 4 camera's and a crane!

msimpson# that's pretty crazy stuff videoing your daughters wedding! I often wondered how I would handle that if one of my daughters gets married(I've filmed about 100 weddings)but I've never considered walking down the aisle with a camera. . . .hope you had it running:-) Look forward to seeing your highlight clip.

Canon did not provide gaskets on its lenses. If you will notice many newer +$1000 lenes from canon have gaskets now. For instance the 28-70 (It think thats the one) is the replacement to the 24-70 and now has gaskets.

In all honsty as A Nikon person I can say they have dust as well and they have gone through there periods where certain lenses were dust suckers.

As for the wedding it was the most exhausting thing I have done in a while. I did have a phototgraphy student takeing pictures as well so I could concentrait on the video. I now have all the video captured and organized and there is over 86Gb of video and pictures.

This is a still that I took while shooting the video with the 5D. Keep in mind its a barn and I only had 3, 60 watt lights that were over 15 feet from the subject. But it turned out very well. The camera was set for ISO 1600 for this shot. I think I could have gone lower as the Auto Video was shooting at 800 but I wanted a faster shutter speed for the stills.

The video clip of this shot even looks better but Im not letting any one see that as its part of the main stuff.

I do have a goof pile of some stuff that will not be part of the main videos.
This shot was take later in the evening. The tent was very dark. I could not shoot at all with the FX1000 even at 21DB gain it was too dark. This shot was one of the misteries at 26400 ISO. The camera displays 0 in the ISO setting when I took this. I did it in black and white cause at that ISO the saturation of the colors is realy messed up. For some reason when in black and white mode the camera does some amazing things.

Remember Vimeo adds artifacts so download my Xvid original to get a better look.

The tent was lit by Christmas tree lights along the top edge. If you notice in the distance there is a open door and you can see how bright it was in the distance compared to the light I was. Im just trying to get across how dark it was.

lol I like those dance moves simpson. I do like the black and white, although some people think its too artsy.
That phillipino wedding video was pretty cool, very movie like. Very steady shots... Although Im sure lots people say they are the worlds best wedding videographers. ;)
