FTP not working

cinecameratv 8 Jan 2017 18:29
I get this message in Filezilla:
Error: Connection closed by server
Error: File transfer failed after transferring 45,137,920 bytes in 910 seconds
Then its starts uploading again and the cicle repeats itself.
I had this problem with SS and had to use direct FTP transfer via Windows 10 File Explorer.

I'm at a loss then, so the files upload via FTP but just don't end up on the site?, and you are using same settings as I posted earlier?, nothing getting stuck in FTP, they are all going up up and way ok but just not showing up?. If it was an error showing in the FTP window such as connection closed I'd say go into edit/connections and increase the timeout window.

@cinecamera, Ok, try these steps.

1. Check for windows updates and make sure everything is updated
2. Reboot computer
3. Put those files you want to send into a new folder and rename them. SelectAll/rename
4. In Filezilla go to the edit tab and then in connections set time out to 9999 and hit OK
5: set your FTP info to what I am using which is:
Host: ftp.pond5.com
Protocol: FTP- FIle transfer protocol
Encryption: Only use plain FTP (insecure)
Logon type: Normal
User
pass

I'd leave all other settings untouched for now.

6. Give it a try

The exact problem you are describing has happened to me before, here and at SS, it very well could be caused by something somewhere down the line, at SS it happened one morning and there was nothing I could do, by afternoon all was well so it was probably on their end.

So basically I've extended the timeout window, made sure all my windows updates are done, I guess do same if you are on mac or Linux because if updates are pending they can start to cause problems and I've renamed the files in the batch just so to the server and site they appear as something new vs something already on the system.

Keep in mind I'm not a certified Microsoft tech support, I'm just relaying what I did on my system and everything is working 100% perfectly.

Why reboot the computer after making these changes? It's just sometimes a good thing to do, I've done software installations and other things and troubleshoot to no end after making changes and a simple reboot seems to effect those changes.

Let me know if this actually works.

Hi cinecameratv,

I too have this re-uploading problem with ftp via Filezilla. It seems that the problem comes up after the STOR command. Maybe because the file, when fully uploaded, moves to another directory on Pond5 and so Filezilla can't close his operation.
This is very irritating and time-wasting.
I would prefer to use browser-upload, but it fails 2 of 3 times with 4k files.

Would there be ever a resolution of this problems?

I answer myself :-)

I solved the ftp re-uploading issue using another ftp client. I'm on Ubuntu, so I can use gftp. All the files upload correctly and the message in the log is the contrary as in filezilla. It says "trasfer complete" for every file in the queue.

I'm happy now :-)

Wonder if it would help the Pond5 IT team who's trying to solve this problem if those affected would post their OS and Build number plus their internet connection speedtest and ping time results. Some are having severe problems uploading and others are not so I'm not so convinced it's a problem with the site itself.

I am not having any problems uploading any of my as i type this 8 out of 11 clips are waiting for edit if that means anything.
jason 25 Feb 2017 20:46
Just checked and all 11 my clips in the edit cue and all uploads were done with filezilla.

Maybe it depends on different mirror server used when uploading from different countries/continents..
