Jake, I agreed. Canon is a bit stupid on this.

I'm wondering what features of the Panasonic GH1 will make it to the production model and if they will incorporate feedback from the PMA show into the production model.

20fps will be good for Vimeo, Youtube etc. My guess is that is where they want to go with the more hobby level cameras.

I am heading to the NAB show in April where Panasonic is supposedly going to have the GH1 to show and also supposedly starting to ship. If I hear anything interesting I will let you know.. BTW - if anyone else is going to the NAB show, please let me know - we could hook up and make a P5 sort of get together or something.

Jake - the Canon 500D (or T1i) shoots as follows:
Shooting is at a frame rate of 30 fps when shooting SD or HD quality video (640 x 480 and 1280 x 720 pixels, respectively) and at a frame rate of 20 fps in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) recording.
Hence for BlueRay or multimedia it is still in there. (1280x720) - But yeah, full HD sucks. It would be nice if Casio Exilim Series (EX-FH20) would crank up the high speed side in resolution.. but it shoots 1280x720 30fps for 600 bucks. So Canon is behind the curve on the consumer versions of this.

The one thing I don't like about this camera and the 5d is that the rolling shutter causes that "jello" shake when you are doing really shakey handheld stuff.
I don't know if other people noticed it...???
Actually I can correct that in After Effects....
But I think its best to stabalize these cameras with a tripod, weighted monopod... (or gyroscope.) I know this guy was just doing a demonstration, but he was too shakey. :)

I would never use a camera of this nature as a hand held device. Even if you are known as steady Eddy... forget about it. You need to have these secured on a tripod, crane, mount, rock, concrete base --- still in any case. That's why companies such as http://www.zacutoimages.com/p408746338 exist.

The 5d is great for studio type shoots and planned movie type shoots. But for on the fly documentary type stuff, the HVRA1U is great. Which is why im not reselling my old camera.
On the other hand I am steady eddie. :)
