How should I export Mavic 2 Pro H265 Dlog-M footage?

Hello everyone. I will start selling some Mavic 2 Pro H265 Dlog-M footage, but I am not sure on how to properly export them without quality loss.

I just want to cut the clips so the customer don't get the shaky/bad parts of the clip. So, if I just cut on Premiere Pro and export h265 4k uhd with maximum render quality and 40mbps will it be ok? Am I losing any quality this way or the customer will be able to edit the footage just like the original one?

I'd really appreciate if anyone can help me out with this one!

Thanks!

Don't output as h265. Use ProResHQ. h.264/265 is lossy garbage, no matter what. If you are not comfortable making the DLOG look "nice" (doesn't have to be fancy, but a little help to make it look nice is good) try the "Purity" LUT from Here ... you might even get it for free .. .it's pretty darn decent for a lot of shots with my M2 Pro DLOG. https://www.polarprofilters.com/products/elektra-mavic-2-pro

Do trim out the nasty shaky, tilted horizon (fixit!) bits.

Thank you for the info! But the whole idea isn't to upload it raw Dlog-M with as much depth as possible so the customer can grade as desired?

I'm with Mizamook with this one. If you have to cut it in Premier, you will get the least amount of loss by outputting it as ProRes. There are probably a few editors out there that can't handle H.265 anyway, while every editing software package I've used (including some prosumer stuff) works with ProRes. If you're going to trim it in Premier, output it as ProRes to maintain as much quality as possible.

Yeah... it will take up a LOT more storage space as a ProRes file.

To answer the epic question regarding whether to upload as DLOG, well, take a look at the clips Pond5 promotes .... not ONE of them is in nasty, grey, washed-out, bland DLOG. You don't have to go too far, and yes, "generally" less is more, unless you are going for something with a strong vibe, and I'll tellya, I've sold a surprising amount of clips with strong, even flat out WRONG color work. I've had the note on my page: "If you want untouched, un"corrected" version of the clip you bought, let me know. Not heard a peep from anyone wanting such since 2011, about when I started ... as in .. never. I doubt the curators would let you upload two versions of the same clip ... but maybe they would, I dunno. Be an interesting experiment. Oh .. that Purity LUT is the first LUT I've used on any footage that I agreed with. So that's why I mentioned it. It just gently boofs up the colors and contrast a bit, maybe a little much on some stuff but you can always back it down.

Fuck me I read this after I uploaded them all with no correction at all haha... So what you say is no one cares about flat images so I should "punch" them a little bit?

Thank you very much for the help man, also I just saw you stuff, it's awesome!
