Scientific video of iron meteorite widmanstatten pattern natural structure on the surface of plate made of iron meteorite Aletai. The presence of Widmanstatten structures is proof of the authenticity of the iron meteorite, because these structures cannot be recreated in the laboratory, they only form in outer space over several billion years. Also known as Thomson structures, are figures of long nickel–iron crystals, found in the octahedrite iron meteorites and some pallasites. They consist of a fine interleaving of kamacite and taenite bands or ribbons called lamellae. Commonly, in gaps between the lamellae, a fine-grained mixture of kamacite and taenite called plessite can be found.
