The songs on this record have been recorded in Masaryktown, Florida, on August 28, 1939, for the Library of Congress, in cooperation with the Federal Writers' Project and the Federal Music Project of Florida. Alton Morris, editor of Southern Folklore Quarterly, did the recording and the interviewing. Masaryktown, named for Thomas G. Masaryk, the first president (1918-1935) of the Czechoslovak Republic, is a community near Tampa settled by Czech farmers in 1924. The sound quality of this recording is poor.
