British Americans fiddle with straws Ethnography Music Dance music Fiddle tunes Instrumentals--fiddle and straws Sebring, Florida Highlands County

This was said to have been composed by the late "Uncle Bunk" Collier, a Highlands County "Cracker," while hiding out from the sheriff after he had stolen a hog. Straws are foot-long fiddle sticks whittled out of fat pine. Albritton and O'Berry say that their ancestors have been Southern fiddlers for several generations. Both are of Scotch-Irish descent. Only one fiddle was used; Albritton used the bow and O'Berry beat the strings with his two straws. The term "Cracker" in this context refers to a Florida pioneer of Scotch-Irish descent.
