Greek Americans spoken Ethnography Music Narratives Announcements Philoptochos Society Tarpon Springs, Florida Pinellas County

The other side of this recording was another native number, which it is, has been for many, many years back and is continued dancing of the native dances, in the form of about fifteen or twenty girls, now, right on the floor, of different ages, in the dedication of the Philoptochos Center in Tarpon Springs. They are continuing to dance and to play right along. And this side of the record is the native dance, again, from island Kalamata, which is very popular of all native numbers, from many many years back, and they continue dancing the old native dances right along through. This is John Filareton, announcer and recorder. This last recording, announcing the Kalamata as island, I'm very sorry, that is from Kalamata, part of Peloponnesus, part of Greece, not an island. But the dance is very popular and has been for many years, and they are continuing to dance what they call Kalamatianos. Thank you.
