Thousands of South Africans marched through the streets of Johannesburg and other major cities on Tuesday, June 30, demanding the deportation of undocumented immigrants. Organised by groups including March & March and Operation Dudula, the protests marked an unofficial “deadline” for foreigners without legal status to leave the country. Protesters, some carrying flags and weapons, cited high unemployment, crime, and pressure on services. The marches largely remained peaceful due to heavy police and military presence, ending at sites like Hillbrow police station. However, isolated violence erupted in Johannesburg, including fires, looting of foreign-owned shops, and shootings.
