Discounts gone crazy

Seriously Pond5? You sell a clip that I listed for $65 and my cut is $7? Unless I miss my math that's a 73% discount.

SEVENTY-THREE PERCENT!

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

And no, the clip is not available cheaper elsewhere.

Are you in the llp or gpp program??it could be the answer..
DogPhonics 23 Aug 2019 02:14
Breath deep. You can opt out of the llp and the gpp programs if you don't dig it. Uncheck the boxes. Pond5 says these sales would otherwise not occur and only happen via buyers and markets not plugged into Pond5 normally. Usually these are web user sales and extremely limited licenses. It's money you would otherwise not have. There's no way to absolutely know and no assurance besides what has been said, so you are either losing a higher priced sale or gaining some pocket money. Why would P5 undercut its own higher priced sales? I don't think they want to cannibalize their own market. But they do want to exploit all the buyers they can get too.

I have opted out of all those programs, AND I keep checking my settings since P5 is in the habit of changing them to their liking. Had to opt out four times now...

Anyway, it's not one of those. Probably another test. "How cheap can we discount clips before artists start running away?" or some such "great opportunity" for us to "make money we otherwise would not have made". Another huge "battle against the race to the bottom" that stupid submitters like us can't comprehend. Trying to end the race to the bottom by arriving first, maybe.

Just the other day they sent out another email with 25% discount. They are a sinking ship. They can't even make sales almost giving away our content.

My wife was on Facebook recently, and although I personally have no social media accounts, and my wife has no connection with stock agencies, adverts for Shutterstock were appearing on her timeline. Although I was annoyed that my own contributor relationship with SS seems to have led to my wife being force-fed their marketing, I did look at what their Facebook ad was about.

I sideways swiped at one promotional clip after another on the Facebook timeline, until I’d seen dozens. Reassuringly, there was no mention of any discounts, and every single HD clip on display was advertised at $79.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Adobestock also seem to be holding on to that same HD price? Of course, all agencies will have promotions from time to time, but it certainly seems that the only one heavily discounting as a matter of course in the current marketplace, is Pond5. And despite doing that, their sales have been wretched for months. Something is horribly wrong.

Yes,discounts and low price are a pond5 workhorse to try to get buyers back here...unfortunately for them and for us it's not working...i see them really in difficulty,it's frustrating to see such good agency going down this way driven by people that don't know better than lower price...

Every sale since the 9th is discounted. Most 25%
If everyone gets a discount, how is it only high volume buyers that is noted in the artist agreement?
dandeemann 15 Sep 2019 02:06
$1.50 royalties from SS would indicate to me that P5 isn't the only agency discounting.
sebolla74 15 Sep 2019 08:40
1,50$ sales on ss are from a streaming license...i think you can't even download it..
