Batch Edit on mega-uploads

Ok, I did a small trial with Pond5 for a few months and it worked ok. Now decided to upload/ship in my entire library, over 40,000 clips (video and stills).

For initial testing I've been doing FTP uploads and now have about 800 files uploaded. Tried the template route to edit info on the files to get them ready to review. Works but doing that for as many files as I have is kind of a life work.

Figured for sure there'd be a batch edit system that allows me to create a file / database on host computer, then just upload the edits with the files. Looked at the CSV method, tried it on one non-edited file, took a couple of tries, but finally got the Pond5 system to say it worked. Unfortunately, nothing happened to the actual file.

So, for those with large libraries, how are you doing the initial editing to get the files to reviewable status. Surely not one file at a time using a manual template? I would prefer to just ship in a big hard drive with all of my stuff on it and not deal with doing FTP, but without a convenient way to categorize, that would be out of the question.

Help from the Veterans on Pond5 would be much appreciated.

Problem with templates is some artists don't make individual changes to ensure description and keywords specifically apply to each file. Seems some keep the same keywords for everything. This really hurts the individual but more importantly everyone else here do to extreme spam.

If you use the template please take the time to review each one individually to add or remove what's needed. It sounds like sending a CSV file with each file checked for accuracy is the best way. Yes it's time consuming but the only way to ensure accuracy. At this point you can't upload stills here at P5.

Good luck!

Actually, you can upload stills. I have about 1,000 now in queue and several already approved. I agree with the template idea, and would much prefer to be able to use something where I can create generic info easily, but also customize each file. The link on the info would be the filename, so when you do a batch upload you should be able to upload the csv and run it. That would place all the data into the proper link. Unfortunately, while the one test I did with csv said that it worked, it did not change anything or add anything.

You have stills approved?
I looked at your portfolio and they all look like video. can you show my the photos?
Just asking because the last we heard they didn't release us being able to upload photographs yet.

Well, now I'm not sure what is going on. Before I began the mass upload of stills first then video, I had originally done about a dozen video clips a few months back. I let those sit as I was re-arranging my catalog. A few days ago I uploaded a few more videos and tried to upload a few stills, which at first the system refused, then showed one. I then did a batch upload of about a dozen stills through FTP, they showed up in my edit area the next day. I did an edit and I was almost certain they were approved, as everything I had uploaded in that second test was approved very fast. So began the mass upload beginning a couple of days ago. The system is accepting the FTP uploads, it is allowing me to edit and they are in the "waiting" queue.

However, you are correct, I no longer see the still that I was almost certain was approved. I also received an email from them asking me to upload my vids and stills. I'll now wait to upload any more stills, as I'm just getting started on building the library here, but don't want to waste time uploading thousands of images if they aren't going to be going live. I'll wait a week or so to see if these that are now in the queue get activated.

Ok, now I understand what I guess is going on. In their email (which I admit I only skimmed) they said I should go ahead and upload both vids and images, but it will be a few weeks before the images will go live. I assume that the one I saw live was probably some kind of test run, as it is now not live.

So, back to my original question...is there a way to link a database or csv file to the uploads so that the text information can be run to create the informational areas on the individual clips. I find it far more effective to use a template that allows me to copy and paste on my own computer into an informational file, which can then be assigned to all images.

Like I said, I tried using the csv template, but while Pond5 showed the "Success" line, it did not do anything to the test file. I tried this on both files that had already been approved, files that were in the waiting for approval level and files that needed edits. Nothing.

thanks to all

Dave did you ever get your question answered? I have the same question about csv files for my library of music.
Thanks

Hope you noticed Jeanna those treads are 6 years old.

I guess he didn't get it answered...
In his initial statement, he has 800 uploaded and 40,000 to upload
Fast forward 6 years and he has 152 online?

Maybe over estimated how many he actually had. :)

Or he realized it was a lot of work, which it is. I love it when producers quit.
