Keywords.. title..METADATA!

I want to share this with anyone who needs it. It is extremely vital to your success as a creator because many of us have YouTube channels also and IG, TikTok.. and so on, I know I do, all of them (Visual Stimulant VS) and this leads me to the most vital part of it all, Metadata, metadata is Keywords, Title and Description which is also your cutline. These need to be embedded in your videos and images. Why? Because google reads it, when people search for an image on Googles image or video search, our content is sometimes displayed and the average user does not filter to Creative Commons so they are presented with us. Google does this through mysterious magic and hocus pocus often times a dragon will fly down and breath fire on the google complex which makes Mark Zuckerburg look even more inhuman :) oh we are talking about metadata though.. yeah so every single one of my videos and images except the first 500 when I just simply did not know, are embedded with metadata. All agonizing 13,000 of them, and guys.. I had to innovate my way through this to make it as fast as possible, if you want to see where I started I own the world record on the longest video editing live stream, 10 hours, but this is common for me. The metadata is the hardest part, it takes the longest, if not for that I would have 30 or 40k by now. But the reality of it is, it has to be done.

Now, all that being said I imagine you are waiting for the instructions on how to do it. In premiere on the export screen there is a Metadata button at the bottom left. Expand Dublin Core and fill in Description/keywords/title. In Photoshop File/File Info. Once you do this, then you can upload to many agencies, non exclusive peoples, and just submit, or later on you discover a new platform, its all done, just upload and submit. If you like this then cool. Let me know and I will shorten your learning curve some. My tiktok is new and it is really just a parody behind the scenes of what I do, I am not a professional and I use what I have and through this journey I have lost cameras, lenses, equipment and so on.. we all start somewhere, even if it is just a phone, I have sold iPhone and Android footage on here and quite a bit of it. Peace fam

Sorry, if you are wondering what a cutline is, Augusta, Ga USA - 10 18 21: that my friends is a cutline, I place it in the description box along with a brief description, that is now my title, I only do it this way to cut steps out of the process. I can't speak if it hurt or helps, I have sold a LOT of media so it seems to be working. If you watch my live streams you will get what I am saying.

I have metadata in all of my YouTube videos as well, why? Because google owns YouTube
NewsMarket 20 Nov 2021 02:34
Embedded in the video in addition to the title/keywords/tags that we normally enter?, makes sense because Google indexes everything.
Photoguy5000 20 Nov 2021 02:58
hey Newsmarket, Pond 5 reads that metadata and populates all of the fields for you from the embedded metadata, all you will have to do is submit. They read image and video metadata.

sorry, I am madvideos lol this is my exclusive account. After reading it again I totally left that part out. Here just in case some of you need it, Pond 5, Dreamstime, and Adobestock read and auto populate the embedded metadata. Depositphotos and Shutterstock do not read video metadata but will read image metadata. Hope that expands it a bit.

hey big thanks for your haring @Madvideos. Actually I do that for my vector artwork but I missed that it could apply to footage. :D

Thanks - useful information. Mad, do you feel the location and particularly the date are useful keywords? I sometimes feel they are a detriment as it could show that the clip is from an area that is not of interest (while the subject is) or that the date shows it is an old clip. And, of course, too many keywords are not useful. Or, are you talking about metadata that is not in the description or keywords?
Madvideos 20 Nov 2021 22:06
Absolutely, the date is super important in regards to editorial. As far as commercial to me not relevant as much unless is something we humans built like architecture, landscaping and such. I sometimes add a cut line to my commercial however it’s rare I do that. To your point it certainly won’t hurt. Vintage is a top 10 keyword so if you are shooting vintage commercial, old houses , small portions of it else it becomes recognizable property, and the era will be a big plus. The metadata can be changed with xpix also. You can also use xpix to write your metadata to your media. One thing I’ve learned from Dreamstime is how keywords are used as when I sell media they show what keywords were used, super helpful. If I had time I’d go through and evaluate all of the media I’ve sold and see just how the keywords played a role. But often times the keywords used are in my title which in my mind is the #1 driving force for being seen. I hope I explained that correctly and answered your question.

Thanks Billy. As much of my work is nature I doubt the date is of importance but I often take an hour or so and go back and redo keywords. Funny - I've seldom used Vintage but will go back and retag. I like that Dreamstime tells what keywords helped sell - very useful. Sometimes on P5 I can tell my the title. Thanks again - Richard
