Low pricing

I Just got a sale but what a disappointment. A good lynx shot, 168917306 , 4k, priced at $179 and I got $16!!! Dangerously close to Shutterstock pricing. And, what is more, I cannot find any explanation as to why the pricing was so low. Not happy, Pond5, Not happy.

Hi, I think it's a GPP/LPP sale since they came today.
These sales are made through pond5 partners and have different characteristics from a normal sale as they respect agreements established between the parties as well as usage limitations and price.

Even more troublesome is that it appears the clip is from a P5 Exclusive account. If a clip is supposedly Exclusive to Pond5 why is it available to be sold on other platforms in their heavily discounted subscription and bundled packages?? Nothing "Exclusive" about any of that. Whats the point in being Exclusive in these GPP/LPP schemes?

To quote from P5's Exclusive page:

"What Content is considered Exclusive?
Content is considered Exclusive if it is not uploaded to or available for sale on any other marketplace."

How is a clip "not...available for sale on any other marketplace" if it's offered for sale thru the LPP/GPP programs??

It probably is an el cheapo GPP sale or one of those "Enterprise Custom License" sale. For that kind of low price, it should be a very limited license. Luckily we don't have those sales a lot.

Thanks for the feedback. Disappointing for sure and makes me lose some faith in Pond5. Discouraging.

Well, it's "Exclusive" if the contributor has not uploaded it to any other site for sale, but all bets are off when it comes to GPP/LPP partner sales

Of course, all this was discussed in a previous thread here:

But the way I'm rationalizing this, our content is still up on this site for sale at our pricing. Even if someone does basically steal our content on some "P5 partner" site (who knows who they are?) it's still available here. Not everyone who's looking to license our stuff knows about the other sites or would rather deal with P5 and not some other site

It is disturbing, however, to know how not Exclusive our Exclusive content really is. Again read the other thread

And I'm surprised that the veterans here are all taken by surprise by this. I'm pretty new here but for those who have been uploading to P5 for years this must be something very new

And I'm also surprised by how little threads on this forum are read by the general contributor population. A discussion about this subject went on for awhile just a few weeks ago

I suspect when most contributors decide to be Exclusive they envision that their assets will be only on P5 and no where else. The use of the term "marketplace" in P5's description/definition of Exclusiveness is disingenuous and misleading.

There is potential to offering Exclusive media on other platforms as long as it's not abused. But only as long as those platforms adhere to P5 Exclusive's pricing and keep Exclusive assets out of the other platform's heavily discounted subscription and bulk deals.

@singletrack500m572 "And I'm also surprised by how little threads on this forum are read by the general contributor population."

Doesn't surprise me a bit... Most just won't take the time and maybe there's little/no awareness of previous threads on a specific topic.

Also I think we may forget just how much media is submitted via bulk aggregators such as BlackBox and others.

Those who distribute clips etc thru these aggregators are unlikely to visit P5 or other agency's Forums. They're probably not even aware of contributor contract changes that indirectly (or directly?) affect them.

I have read the other thread but part of my point was the financials did not say how or to whom or under what program the sale was made, only that I made a whopping $16 bucks. To be fair, P% responded today and confirmed it was ad CCP sale and that I would not have made the sale otherwise. My response in part was:
"That is what I thought and I know we agree to this - albeit under duress.
So, we are Exclusive to Pond5 - yet not Exclusive, as Pond5 can sell to other agencies , but we cannot.
This is why so many of us left Shutterstock.
And frankly, for me, I would rather not make a sale that sells at such a low price."
