What P5 Does Not Want Any More

Appears things are changing at P5 curation and catching some of us off-guard. Spend all night uploading, describing and keywords some passenger aerial footage only to be told P5 doesn't want them anymore. Sure would be nice to be advised by a list what subject matter is not longer wanted. It saves artists a lot of time and money in capturing, processing, uploading and keywording. Also will save P5 a lot on curation review and upload and storage data costs.

"Hi there, unfortunately we have received a very high volume of shots looking out of plane windows so we have decided to hold back on accepting more at this time. If you have any questions please get in touch. Thanks. Simon - Pond5 Curator"

So what else do ya'll not want any more of. Lets not waste our or your time and money.

This might be a good thing in the long run, meaning that submission of already existing clips is duplication and not required. Kind of ties in with requests to limit similar clips at lower prices.

Just give us a list and keep it updated. I would hope they delete the crappy footage and allow replacement with higher quality. A simple rejection may be bad if there are a large number of bad footage that can be removed.

No problem with the rejection but it would be nice to know the current standing. If they delete a bunch of crap then they might open the categories for a short time. The list must be accurate and updated on a regular basis. Oh ya, that means communication with the artists ;). Save time and money on both sides. They're for sale elsewhere ...

In the "good old days" when photo stock libraries actually cared about their contributors, they reguarly supplied such lists conrtianing -
do not want at all,
do not need at this time
(and most importantly)
really need immediately
have enquiries and/or waiting buyers for

Maybe Pond 5 could think about leading a return to the good old days, although I doubt many of the sheep would follow, which would probably be a good thing

They should delete old clips that has never sold instead to reject New clips....in this way they could keep pond5 collection fresh and updated...

I never understand when people say "delete old clips that have never sold"
What would be the time for that? One year, two years and delete anything after that?

For example in your portfolio you have been on Pond5 since 2012 and sold about 10 clips that I can see.
It would be Ok with you if they deleted the rest leaving you with 10 videos?

It certainly would not be OK with me.

I'm a contributor since dec 2012...Old clips i mean 4/5 years without selling....or do you prefer to get rejected clips because the bin is oversaturated??
TheEngineer 22 Apr 2014 15:57
This is (according to the search results) the oldest clip on Pond5

It hasn't sold.

Perhaps rather than a blanket "delete clips older than X" it would make sense to say from next year (10 years since Pond5 started) that clips that reach 10 years without a sale could be given a cursory curation again to see if they would be accepted today. If not then they get pulled from the site.

4 or 5 years. So only people that have been here the longest are affected. Sounds very fair.
I've had clips sell for the first time in the last week that I uploaded in 2009.

Don't upload oversaturated clips would be another option. A quick search for the subject you are uploading would yield some answers.
I've thought about uploading some ideas I had but stopped short of shooting because I saw they had a ton of them already.

I do agree that if Pond5 had a list of overused concepts would be nice.
But deleting anything would be a huge problem.

I would also agree with The Engineer said.
Not a blanket delete but more of a quality thing.
