4K standards still being discussed.

Just a word of "caution" regarding 4K Ultra High Definition.

A lot of people are saying that to achieve the wow factor and make people upgrade to 4K, broadcasters will need to use much higher frame rates than the current 24/26/30/50/60 in use today.

Puuuh, i read it all and as i understand well, the main theme is that 4k with 25/30 is too low for live streaming of sports. Ok!
But i can't agree that the actual 4k camera situation is like the early HD camera situation. When looking 4k with 25fps now on my 27# monitor i really ask myself "What could i want more?".
When i remember my first HD camcorder (3 year old technology) and looking the clips on a much smaller monitor, ....what a terrible shame!
Last not least it's always the evolution that technic evaluates and standarts change. I self make my first 4k experiences with GoPro Hero3+ and i think for my own records it's so amazing that i can't wait to buy a better 4k camera. Of course also the actual consumer cameras around 2000.- are expensive enough and will become cheaper by time. But how long to wait for an available consumer camera which doesn't cost more than 2000.- and offers 50/60 fps ?

Very soon you can get Panasonic FZ1000 and LX8, both are 4K on a ONE inch chip. Stay tune... I will order them both instead of using GH4, carrying lenses around. I want to be just a fun snappy tourist in the crowds. I have invest some lenses on GH4 but some I can return within 14 days.

Great reads, good to keep us on our feet too. Many are so excited about 4K, but these articles raise valid points. Maybe we should see the 4K most of us shoot now as 4K light. Usable to create awesome HD with lots of flexibility, but maybe not as 'future proof' as we'd like. Or perhaps HD will remain the standard for most viewing options, on computer screens, smartphones, tablets etc. Time will tell.

Yes, i read about the FZ1000 and first i would wait for it, but after thinking about it and making my personal list "what is important for me" i decide to focus on the Sony AX100 camcorder. For video i prefer camcorders since 2000 and won't go without the touch display today. Also the camcorder handling with True-Finder (Sucher) is a must have for me, especially if for example following a jet on airshow.
But i'm nearly sure the FZ1000 will replace my Canon EOS 550 some time later ;)
For the LX8 i have no info till now. Do you have a link?
Snappy tourists sounds nice ;) For me Dslr, Camcorder, Gopro, lightweight tripod, CamRanger tripod head, akkus and so on are around 10kg. But that's my sport and thinking of "stay fit"! ;)

The FZ1000 has three slow motion speeds plus 4K which is nice features in a camera under $1000.00 USD.

So even de Blackmagic 4k at 30p is not good enough. No mention in the first article about blue ray 4k and Hollywood movies.

I am going to stick to the GH4 ..... 200 Mbps All-Intra in HD plus better sound control is worth it.

Perhaps the so-called "wow factor" is driven and stated by the telco/internet providers? This would be the greatest justification to sell very large bandwidth to everyone. In today's world, they can barely deliver quality HD to households. Think about what would need to happen to all the "last mile" connections in the world to deliver "higher frame rate 4K" not to mention "high quality HD". At NAB a little broadcasting company named ABC told me that one could expect 4K over the net by 2017. I almost choked on the turkey roll I was eating at the Pond5 shindig when I heard that. The only think I could think of was "super compression" with an SD type look and special glasses to create sharper imagery. :)

Is that so bad in the state !
You guys has the highest technology in the world but the last mile no one care...
Korea is super, I read somewhere, that they have 60% (?) area cover by Fiberglas. USA and China only 10%, at the low end.
