Apple Prores 4:4:4

I am trying to make some time lapse clips. Can I save my clip as MOV, Apple Prores 4:4:4?

From what I read, it gives the best quality. Does it?

No not really.HQ 10bit 4:2:2 is plenty enough even for raw.And if you use jpegs to shoot timelapse it's a double no.
And quality comes from photography, codecs just help to maintain (part of) it.

Thanks, gcrook, but please let me rephrase my question, if I may.

Will Pond5 accept it if the codec is Mov Apple Prores 4:4:4? I initially make the clip as mp4, it was rejected. The curator said "at least" it should be H.264. Me think, at least H.264, can something be even better?

Yes it accepts prores,i only upload prores, and if you can afford to upload prores why not,but 4:4:4 bitrate is huge.
Dont know why mp4 got rejected mp4 can be h264,avc,etc maybe they need it in a *.mov container.

gcrook, yes, you are right, this is exactly my confusion.

My first batch of mp4 clips was accepted, the second batch mp4 was rejected by a different curator. In my software, I cannot find the format of H.264, an inquiry email has been sent to the software maker.

In the meantime, I googled and find 4:4:4 is the highest standard, so I assume it will be ok to use it.

Sure, but it's overkill and has no clear benefits, unless you have a camera that outputs true 12bit 4:4:4 raw and need to pull chromakey, and of course you have to consider storage costs.I insist that prores HQ 8bit or 10bit if it makes you feel better, is the best and most logical way to go.

What can I say? Guess overkill is a bit better than rejection, no? lol

Hey, its your bandwidth after all :P

Your potential buyers might not, and might choose something they can download faster. gcrook is right on: I'd recommend 422 unless you are seeing a difference between the files. If you don't see it, it really might be like going shopping for a baguette with a dump truck.

Can't believe you got anything rejected. That in itself is unusual. (See current posts in "About Sales")
