Keep us posted, please, on whether you continue to be "OK" with the lesser codec. For the most part, with my RX100 II, the AVCHD is fine "for stock" but I'll tellya, when I run into those challenging situations, I wish I had something better. But then better would not fit in my pocket.... and the $1000 dollar difference could be made up for by a few choice clips sold due to having an all I codec. (No external recorder, purchased later, will likely be under $1000, and it certainly won't add to the maneuverability of the camera, costing lost shots....)

Jason, they are the same type of sensor but not the same size or configuration. Totally different beast.

You're right It uses the same type sensor but not the same size 1/2.3" and it's only using one.

Excellent, it handles direct sunlight very well while holding onto the blue sky without blowing it out. Great example.

Thanks, I think the camera handles quite well, even in the low light of the morning. A bit grainy in that situation, but that's a given and is still usable, in my opinion.

When I prep those shots for stock, I'll run it thru a denoiser.

James, did you manual focus most those or keep it on auto? How is autofocus on this cam?

I'm really leaning towards a z100... not in comparison to the one you have, but compared to odyssey 7Q update for my fs700. It's just too much bulk to carry around. I'll keep my fs700 for slow motion and get something like this for 4k I think.

All manual focus. Quite a challenge in the sun. I'd use the push to auto button on some situations to help me find the focus, but then I'd use the manual ring to tweak.

I'd like to see the Z100 and AX1 compared side by side. I'm sure that's going to happen soon. I'm sure the Z100's output would be similar to the AX1, but just "richer" in the colors. It may even have a slightly larger dynamic range. And of course, the Z100 would be far superior for chroma key setups. Probably, however, they both have similar light sensitivity issues.

Once the Z100 gets the firmware upgrade in 2014 that lets it shoot XAVC-S, it'll be a killer camera. But I also bet there will be plenty of other 4K killer cameras come 2014.

If I had a Z100 of this beach shoot, I would have been out of storage within a few minutes. I was shooting everything at 60fps. Having XAVC-S as an option would be very helpful in long shoots.

That's what I'm looking at is the massive amount of storage or memory required for Z100 now. I've been try to figure it out, it has SD card slot, will the Z-100 save to a fast SD in full 4k or is the XQD memory required for 4K and SD card only for HD?
