7000 sales since 2008

I'm going to choose my words carefully... Your "sale" and $10 HD clips is insulting and damaging. Why don't you just give it away for free? Clearly you see no value in your work and sadly are destroying the business the rest of us are in. Stick to your daytime job, because clearly this is just a hobby for you.

Hey welcome back Francois, great to hear from you again and super advise. Indeed in 7 years at $10 he has made as much as many here earn in a few months with the number of clips he has for sale.

Guys, my yearly average sold price is higher than $60 and it won't hurt industry.
Stockshooter 23 Jun 2015 18:32
Really? Won't hurt industry? I really am trying to understand how selling footage, any clip for $10 of which you make 50% is not going to hurt. In that case, how does it help? You realize customers will soon enough come to expect $10 (or lower) clips as the new norm.

Imagine this, "if you can afford to sell to me today for $10 and next week for $10, then I see no reason why I can't have the same price next month and next year."

I've seen this train of illogic used for too long and whether you think it or not it is another small bit of erosion of your living. In this case that you yourself inflict.
GlobalStock 23 Jun 2015 20:31
I'm gonna do the math.

Let's be really optimistic and say you sold on average at $60 a piece. So you're making 30 per clip. Times 7000 = $210.000 total earnings. Divided by 7 years = 30.000 a year. After taxes: $22.000 a year? After expenses, investments: $17.000 a year? $1400 a month... In the Western world you can live off that like a student. But you will never be able to buy a home, support a family or save for a rainy day... That's at 60,- a piece- and now you're offering it at 10,- To celebrate? Why?

It's insensitive to celebrate in such a manner around people who have a hard time paying the bills.

I also get annoyed when I see this, and I don't understand. Particularly because you're a good shooter and should not be 'begging for buyers'. You should have more pride and demand respect and get paid accordingly. I figure you're a young guy, no family. One day you're going to find out you sold yourself too cheaply and undermined your own livelihood... and indirectly the livelihoods of many here at the forums.

On the other hand, it's a free world and you can't shoot everything... And in the end, it's all about content, right, guys? Don't get mad, get even... better!

I set my sold price to end up around or higher than pond5 average sold price in yearly average base, not clip by clip at all time. As long as I sell at higher price than the average overall, I don't think it hurts industry any more than average priced seller.

>imaginevideo
I have similar sales from 3, 4 different agency and Pond5 is not even my top seller. Your guess doesn't really fit me.

You guys should talk to pond5 to raise minimum price. I follow pond5 rules.

The average price of sold footage here on P5 hasn't been updated for years. It also included the SD and low cost noise files. There is no validity to the listed average sales price ... you know that since you've been watching the static non-changing prices for years.

So SS sells HD for $79 and up to nearly $500. How is that staying average? Do you sell at SS for $79 minimum and now $10 here? And you make over $75K a year just on footage stock sales ... that is great ... Congrats! Desperation now ...
GlobalStock 24 Jun 2015 06:56
I've heard of few videographer selling similar or better than at Pond5, except maybe SS. So would you care to share what agencies these are?

And if you are doing so well, it makes even less sense selling at 10,- ??
