All other Beholder should be nervious about DJI X3, it simply works beautifully. Almost perfect, I have not hold in my hand yet, but it is promising.
Gene,
Forget about your $2,800 Dinge, no use now... ;)

Pat, I'm not sure what you mean ... are you trolling or discussing? I'm basing the stability performance expectations of the Osmo off my experience with the X3/Zenmuse gimbal on the Inspire 1, which, as an integrated unit, is flabbergasting, leaving only actual camera performance to be desired, but amazing nonetheless. If Osmo performs to this same level, it's likely to enjoy the same popularity among users based on it being something that "simply works" with cool functions. Many many custom drone builders/tinkerers have gone to the Inspire 1 due to the fact that it "just works" and despite having thousands into other platforms and having better cameras on them, they (we/I) frequently find that the awesome stability is what makes the package so worthy, and grudgingly accept the hit in camera quality. Do a quick search to ask people how much fun they have balancing and tuning PID's with other gimbals, including the Beholder(s) that are not made for a single camera, but for a range ... therefore making them something the end user has to tweak and tune, which leaves lots of room for error.
But I could be wrong.

I know it is no fun to tweak and tune those Beholders (those designed for lot of camera), that is why this Osmo is good, simple and works.
You can even choose Forth Third camera on it (expensive), it worth it for lot of people. For day time X3 is good enough. It is 4K camera shooting for FHD usage.
On the other hand, once you tune your camera on the Beholder, and you marked the position on the release-plate, will it be quick enough for using in the next time usage??

Well, having an X3 now - it's truly awesome for what it is, but I think I will like the m43 X5 better, for flight and for gimbal. The lens on the X3 has a "camelback" distortion which is sometimes offensive, and I can only hope the flicker is gone also, so if that is true, it would be better on many, many counts. If I could afford the X5R for RAW, I'd be happier, sure, but I think I "generally" won't need it, and it sure does simplify workflow to not have it.
I tuned my gimbals with balance marks and such .. yet I was always futzing with them. The "tiniest" variation could cause erratic behaviour ... best method is to somehow have a quick release plate indexed - and if the lens changes too much, it causes a necessary shift in balance. Always putzing with it I was. I love putzing with things...I'm a fiddler by nature - but I hate having to do it when I just want something to work, therefore the Osmo/X5 might just be the best most cost effective "cat's meow" for me.

Have been reading about this new gimbal and i have to say that for those who are about to invest heavily or have already invested in the dji universe it's a godsend. For everyone else im not sure.
The basic camera isn't all that good to be honest, unless you go to the higher end models and to justify the higher end models price with the gimbal you propably will want to go to aerial shooting at some point otherwise it makes little sense.Although i have to admit that using a smartphone/tablet as a monitor is something you can't find in pistol grip gimbals and for that alone it's worth considering.
I still believe that any 300usd gimbal coupled with a gopro4 is a better investment for people like me,although im getting a beholder ds1 for my rx10.Believe it's a more versatile rig expecially if you dont do extreme sport shooting. And will still work with a future mirrorless camera like the A7SII.

You are speaking sense. I'd still be in the market for a larger gimbal for the AX100 (probably X70 before I go too far) for tele work, but this would get me going, and I'm definitely wanting better quality from the air (both from the Inspire 1 flights as well as from planes).
The Hero4 has better "actual resolution" but more distortion, although the distortion is more evenly circular, easier to fix.
I will say I strongly feel that the DJI Osmo promo vids were probably all shot with the X5R ... you are not seeing X3 shots there (at least not those grand filmic scenes)

Im not sure which is which but the clips i saw were from a very noisy, oversharpened, and mediocre camera in terms of dr.Still we are talking about real world usage here for the majority so im not nitpicking.

I was referring to the intro video with the fancy shots ... not sure what noise you are seeing ... these cameras are very low noise (except for compression crap) sharpening is an issue .. in reality, the X3 has very little true detail, and they make up for that with gawdawful sharpening ... if you turn it down too much (and you can) then it's impossible to even pretend detail. Mixed bag .. really, if you have blocky solids and planes (like in a city) things look better, but give it gravel/trees, etc, then there are serious issues, especially with the dropped Bframe every 8 frames. I happen to have a clip up on Dropbox if you want to see it at its worst PM if interested. (I sent it to FlickerFree dudes to see if they could help with settings for that)

I watched a couple at the osmo official page and they were the ones propably shot with the smaller camera. Some clips seemed way too overprocessed like they were carefully denoised and re-sharpened but as i said im nitpicking here.

Consider - they seem like that just out of camera. It's certainly not the best camera in the world....far from it. But it's better than some, for instance, the Sony V1U, whose image is absolute garbage, but, as I only paid $600 for a used one (in desperation) I consider it the camera purchase so far with the best ROI.
That said I think the X5 "should" be better .. jury still out on that ... wondering why, for instance, it's so hard to find actual footage shot with the thing.
