I'm sure you appreciate that that there is some massive change ahead. Reading through this and other threads, it's obvious that there are associated workflow problems with even 4k technology. These are mainly due to manufacturers lack of support and development at the semi pro level, and my point is that this change will continue for the foreseeable future. My concern is having read through many threads, that there is a significant amount of commitment from small businesses's for this development, but the new technology is being driven, and controlled, by corporate interests from manufacturers and broadcasters.

Yes OP... and unfortunately your last statement is, and always shall be the way the industry works. It really helps to be patient on new tech and wait until all the dust settles. It might be cool for a short while to be the "first" to have such tech, but if it is difficult to handle, process etc... what good is that? The manufacturer's side will always drive what makes them the most money on the shortest path or as they call it "the road map". Unfortunately this does not always agree or make it easy for the small guy that has to hemorrhage blood to keep up with the "latest and greatest" in hopes that it all works right out the door. Think just over the last few years of the generations of cameras that have come to life. And then think about how long it takes on average for new formats to start selling. You will see that this calculation is totally out of kilter. Imaging tech and the real world are quite a ways apart. The real world needs a little bit of a longer cycle to catch up in most cases.

4K at the moment for us in stock video is a niche market as the volume of sales show, but the main advantage at this moment is to future proof your clips so when 4K becomes main stream you already have a 4K library. The risk to being an early adopter is getting equipment with bugs or having software trying to do more than it was designed to do and taking your focus away from producing 1080p clips that can sell well in the short term.

Just this from a week or so ago.

There are a couple of videos out now from the beta testers.
The video looks pretty good. No word on when the cameras will start to ship.

Hey James (ODesigns) I've never copied anyone else subject but I just could help it. So here is my Z-100 version of me playing the piano in 4K.

At first this clip was rejected here at P5 because the music may be copyrighted. I had to assure them it was my original work, my writing and playing. Really I'm not kidding on this. Yes rejected with that question. I guess I better start scheduling my concert tour ... want to join? LOL.
JHDT_Productions 2 Jan 2014 16:52
I would reject it just because it made my ears hurt.

The same sensor noise but this time I see some black dots all over especially zoom on the https://d1hw6n3yxknhky.cloudfront.net/033713387_prevstill.jpeg.
Did you process the footage and this is result of some effect?

I agree, on the small preview screens here and Premiere Pro I have never seen a clean Z-100 capture yet other than from Sony. I believe a lot of it is due to P5 previews. When I put the clips through Neat Video I get real clean outcome. Several have said that normal HD monitors will show this kind of noise but full quality 4K monitors or tv will not. It's a problem of so much data on older screens. Heck I don't know.

Yes it hurt my ears playing it. It was funny when I was asked if the music was copyrighted before they could accept it ;)

I sent P5 the same clip processed in h.264 and PJPEG and asked them to review for quality. They were both approved and no response. Maybe holiday season delay. I would assume or hope that if Z-100 clips are indeed noisy that P5 would be saying something. Not good to accept or sell crap no matter what camera is used. BUT it should be equitably administered with all quality issues from everyone.

I think we have the same piano, but not the same talent.

Actually, that clip of mine was rejected on iS due to copyright issues. I had assumed, perhaps improperly, that the classical Fur Elise by Beethoven was in the public domain.

I'll investigate and remove it if that is true.

EDIT: I've been finding on Wikipedia that Fur Elise is in the public domain. But I'll look around bit more.
