$50 price cap?

CrackerClips_Exclusive 2 Aug 2019 04:58
Yeah, the brakes are on here at this point. I've been uploading all my new content here exclusively but that was a dirty trick. Something I wasn't expecting from Pond5 after all these years. I was hopeful that this exclusive collection at a higher price point would reward me better for my effort. I figured, let the bottom feeders go and I would provide my work to somewhere it was valued at a price point that was sustainable for me.

This is BS and I'm pretty disappointed to find that P5 is taking the lead in the race to the bottom. I'm gonna need to hear some concrete plans about how they're gonna fix this and how they plan to actually take care of their exclusive artists going forward. Deliberately not showing our work for the last 2 weeks may be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Dissapointed to the ground and mad as ...!!!!!! I'd really like to see the number of $ authors lost due this ' SILENT experiment ' ...

Agree with most of you that this experiment seems hurtful if buyers don't realize the slider is there. Almost all my clips are priced higher than $50, so they wouldn't show up on a cold search. The price cap shouldn't be there for existing users, or be pointed out very clearly to new visitors to the site. Trying to attract different types of customers is another way to compete with other agencies and I do see the value in this. But in this way it just seems counterproductive.

For me in the UK the $50 cap disappeared yesterday and I thought the experiment was over but this morning the cap is back and set at $80.

i'm pretty upset....don't know if it worth anymore to upload here....
btw artists feeding subscription plans elsewhere, now are aware that doing this they will lose sales everywhere....
At this point pond5 could do a deal with as and ss to not accept files that are in subscription plans elsewhere like sb or getty/istock....i'm sure most of the artists would leave those subscription plans if they can't sell elsewhere...
Primus1 2 Aug 2019 07:45
I started to send messages to prominent authors. Let us see then what will happen ...

This calls for massive $999 per clip change ...

OK, so let me get that straight... In honor of your pledge to battle the race to the bottom you

1) Allow contributors to set the lowest prices among all serious competitors
2) Don't allow contributors to set prices higher than at mayor competitive sites
3) Exclude all clips that are NOT set to minimum price from the default search.

Yep, makes total sense. Obviously you intend to end the race to the bottom by arriving first, right?
I'm so glad to have some of my best clips exclusively here. NOT!

(Disclaimer: If you manage to find any sarcasm in this post, you can keep it. You might need it.)

I will NOT be uploading any new content to Pond5 unless and until this is remedied. And I'm seriously considering pulling my whole portfolio off of the site.

I'm not a huge contributor, but I do have around 1,000 clips on here, some of which have sold for over $400 (because they're high-quality and I don't undervalue my work).

In the past I have made a decent side income through Pond5. I joined the Exclusive bandwagon in April right after the announcement, excited about its potential. All of my clips are priced well above $50, so for the last ~10 days my clips haven't been showing up in search results unless the person searching clears the $50 cap that Pond5 has imposed on searches. That sucks.

There is a very simple fix to this mess:
***Just make sure that the search results offer a good mixture of Low, Medium, and Higher priced clips.******

That way, price-conscious buyers will see the abundance of low priced media, and yet still see other (more financially beneficial to p5 and us) clips.

Hello??? Why is this so hard to grasp? This is what AMAZON and most other online retailers do and have done for YEARS.

Also, buyers HAVE ALWAYS been able to use the PRICE sort to arrange from to low to high.

It's not just last two week, there was some "experiment" starting in April that really dropped sales like a switch was thrown. It was not the normal "summer" slump and only impacted some but it was a definite change that happened like never before. The last two weeks was a complete shutdown which got Artist attention more. So easy to see, many long term high volume Artists had a few EXCL sales the first couple weeks then nothing. Yes April is when "something" bad started.
