Looks like AVCHD 60-90MBs will come out as the winner.

Note: On his website Bloom says that the T2i, 7D, and 5D are still better in low light. I just will like to have the assurance that the GH1 will shoot 1 hr strait of video at 40 mbs in mjpeg. I want a dependable camera, not one that shoots for 2 minutes and then stops. Will the GH1 be a swiss army knife camera or shoud I say a Mcgyver camera?

which camera are you talking about stopping after 2minutes?
LUXORPYRAMID 17 Jun 2010 23:08
I'm talking about the hacked GH1, because all the comments that I have read of people cranking up the kbps to the max, state that suddenly the camera stops recording because "allegedly" the SD card is not fast enough. Is the card not fast enough or is one of the cpu's overloaded or do the 2 processors inside the GH1 go out of phase or does the power from the battery not sufficient? That brings out another mistery. Is the battery drained faster? 2 mn. is a guess I am making from what I read. If I leave my camera recording a bird nest, I do not want to come an hour later to see that it stop recording 5 minutes after I left.

The GH1 stops after approx. 2 minutes because they still use the old MS-DOS FAT16 to write on the memory card. So if the file reaches a certain size (sooner or later depending on how much details are in your picture) it will stop recording.

I don't know if it's possible to do a hack that will span the footage over multiple files without stopping.

The thing that attracks me to the GH1 is that it is more unspicuous than the T2i and with its kit lens it behaves much like a camcorder with its autofocus and other features. You can blend with the crowd and people and take videos without creating a panic response. It is selling now with the kit lense for $250 dollars more than the T2i. The T2i is still selling like hotcakes. It is always in backorder and I can get the T2i with a much better lense for the same price as the GH1. The other posibility is trying to find a GH1 at a lower price than a T2i in buying the body only and start looking for a lense for under $400. I do not want to buy a used GH1 because it may be from the first production runs which had internal quality issues. Much reach a decision soon....

If I were you I would probably get a GH1, unless the hack shoots 3k all the time, but you wont be able to shoot for hours anyway, If I ever want to shoot for a long time I use my old HDV camera, but that rarely comes up.

None of the lenses I use are "meant" for my camera, but sometimes if a lense isnt made for a particular camera you will get cropping so the focal length will be off.

If you get a c-mount lense adapter it will be "full frame" but like 16mm film.
C-mounts are cheap.

FYI This is kind of cool, this PL adapter thing (which I think is awesome) makes the Gh1 like a 35mm film camera. PLs are Probably out of your budget. http://www.hotrodcameras.com/products/lens-mount-kits/pl-mount-and-mods/hot-rod-pl-deluxe/ But I bet if a GH1 had one, the low light would probably be better. Gh1s, 7ds, and red ones are more like 16mm film cameras because of the bayer thing.

More interesting stuff. When is tester13.5 going to hack the T2i?

Is there something wrong with his face or is it makeup?

Gh1 beats the 7D for sure. And now IQ better than 5dMK2. But 5D still has DOF and resolution advantage.

Check out this frame Grab from 24p AVCHD.
