Nice review James. I am looking forward to seeing the next rev of these cams at NAB next year. Things are moving along very nicely in the industry it seems.

I imagine the next six months we will see many new options and even upgrades to existing 4K cams. The best thing BMC has done for us is help set a lower price standard on quality cameras. Now if we can help hold the price we sell at a high reasonable price point.

what is a reasonable price for 4K real time footage? I was thinking about a $130-$150 pricerange for my new 4K content.

Thanks for the review, James - it's great. Love the Z5U styling. If I start looking at yet another cam I'm gonna have to spring for the version with the better codec though, although your shots look great.

Probably before that though I'll save up the $4K for the upgrade for the FS700 (using the Convergent Designs recorder) although that's a separate box, and there's nothing as awesome as having a camera that shoots without extra crap hanging off of it....

Another agency sell HD very successfully at $79 and another at $150+. Based on that I would guess any 4K should be $99 plus and the best MUCH higher. Then again, there are poorly informed artist that sell HD for next to nothing. If only they could see the real income of dozens or hundreds of artist that sell nothing below $50-75.

- Do you 4k guys plan to upload a 1920x1080 version?
ODesigns 31 Oct 2013 13:38
No.

I think that's part of the problem here at Pond5: multiple resolutions of the same clip.

Plus, it takes time on my part to prep, render, upload, and keyword.

Yes

How is battery life on the AX1?

I've not used it extensively yet, but so far, seems quite good.
