DSLR for stock

Thanks guys.... I'll check those out as well....

Jake, ...

a question on the Marshall.... are the component OUTS active when feeding HDMI IN ??? .... OR are they only a loop out of the component inputs ???

If you have something connected to the component input the component output is active.
There isn't an output for the HDMI

I do use a secondary monitor via a wireless video transmitter so I can view what I'm shooting on the Marshall and someone else can view on the second monitor.

Jake,

That is what I suspected.... what a bonus IF it was doing a decode from HDMI to component internally .... :-)

Your approach is also what I am after.... a secondary client / logger monitor on set but away from the camera rig....

Can you link me to the transmitter.... and I suspect you are feeding it composite out of the DSLR ????

thanks...

Hi Ron,
Yes, that would be cool to have a HDMI decoder inside the monitor.

Here is the link to the transmitter/receiver I bought.

I bought one transmitter that plugs into the composite of the camera and two receivers for each monitor for $100
One note on these. This guy makes them in his garage so they are very DIY looking. But work great. When I get some time I'm going to put them in a more professional case.

Yes, this is plugged in the composite out of the DSLR, actually I stopped using the HDMI a while back. The connector on the 5d is so flimsy that I kept having disconnects during a shoot.
Using the Marshall monitor with composite hasn't been an issue since it has very good resolution and I love the false colors and focus assist.
So that helps without using the HDMI

Jake,

that link looks to generate a blank page for me.... after further looking, would it be this...

however, none of the relative links in that blog post above seem to be active...

From this page, you can order just a transmitter and receiver for $75 but I emailed him about getting two receivers.

Jake,

Superb find ! ....

I can see a few different shooting scenarios where this would make my day !

His combo with the receiver/monitor together would be great as a second monitor 'in the field' if another portable lcd wasn't available..... my only question in his combo set up is this..... can you change batteries in the lcd OR do you have to re-charge it ???? .... as well as what the quality of the display is....

I don't know how his monitor is setup. I already had two monitors so I just bought his transmitter and receivers.
But if I had to guess, his monitor has rechargable batteries and the built in receiver uses the rechargable battery in the monitor.
Pretty slick system. The guy must be making a killing selling this DIY stuff.

this system has already been a huge time saver since I shoot a lot of my video with me also in the video. Now I can carry the monitor with me and see what the camera sees.
Also when I'm behind the camera watching one monitor and Delores is watching the second monitor to double check what I'm doing.
(I need a lot of double checking)

That looks like a $146 Kmart portable TV and a $60.00 stripped down Radio Shack TV to TV wireless transmitter.

Don't know about the monitor but the transmitter is pretty small, smaller than the 9 volt battery that powers it.. Haven't seen it in any store localy.

But he must be buying this stuff wholesale at the prices he's putting the kit together and selling it for.
