Interesting point of views.
I would think if you downsized the 4K wouldn't that dilute the 4K price? Or would both versions be the same price.
If and when I do go to 4K I'm only uploading the 4K size and give the customer the option to use as is or crop to 1080

Totally agree with Jake, 4k and higher prices to protect the investment, equipment and time working with 4K. Just like P5, we as artists have additional expenses with 4k, faster computer and a lot more hard drive storage. Will need faster internet upload as well. 4K is more expensive to produce, no sense on diluting it unless HD price is same thereby offering the buyer a benefit.
The 4k low prices are because of the dollar stock mentality, I don't think they have rally looked into the value and are just following the photo world blindly.

I didn't mention pricing. I'm going to make two version available: a 4K version and a 1080P version since still a lot of pc's can't handle 4K well. Both at same price. It's just an extra 'service' I provide to customers.
I do not agree with the way Shutterstock prices SD footage from an HD clip, way too low. Those $5.70 sales hurt.
and since SS doesn't have a special price for 4K footage I'm not uploading those clips to them.

Yes indeed, dropping prices dramatically because of smaller size is not good business. It's more of a added benefit to buyers. A small drop but if they start at $79 then SD should be more like $50.

Tested the fdr-ax1 yesterday. Looks great!
Great quality, zoom and options. Like the file size as well.
What I do not like:
- can't use the screen and viewfinder at the same time, you have to close the screen for the viewfinder to work.
- low light isn't good but I knew that before I purchased the camera and I'll use my XA20 for low light conditions.
Filming with a camera of that size has it pros and cons. Tested it at the airport yesterday and for the first time in history police stopped, not to tell me I couldn't film but to ask if any special airplanes were coming in to land.
10 minutes later I shot this clip, took a few minutes for the owner to notice and he said I couldn't film on their property. I told him I was on a public road so he said he was going to run me over with his excavator. yea, nice guy

I found that odd, too, that you can't use both the viewfinder and the LCD screen at the same time. And you do draw some more attention when out and about. Sometimes that's good, other times that's bad.
But like you, this won't be my sole camera. In those situations where my GH3 would be better, I have no problem leaving the AX1 at home.

Yep, that's the problem with big cameras.
Nice shot.
Very soon pro 4k cameras will be the size of your XA20. Maybe even smaller and who knows if the next go-pro is 4k/30fs.

James, do you know if it's possible to set the speed of the Power Zoom Lever to FIX instead of VAR?
