I looked at stills from the 5d, it doesn't look too bad. I did some compression analysis on the stills, I should upload pics of my results sometime.

I agree the audio on the 5d sucks, thats why you should record audio seperately, and use a clapper to sync the audio.

The red still doesn't have as good of a sensor as the 5d, which is why they overhauled the scarlet. (and its still not as good) If you want to read more about the functionality of the red sensor you can read about it a little in the latest creative cow magazine.

Granted the sensor may not be as good, but if you are really shooting video there are way more functional cameras to buy. The Red is trying to be good at both. Though with extras and vital accessories out the wazoo the unit gets pricey. Another thing about the 5d that sucks is single frame rate. I like the ability to overcrank and undercrank the footage. Although there may be a way to hack the canon, (if you want to risk the warranty loss).

I was also just trying to let him know there are still options for any nikon glass he may already have invested in.

I agree the red cameras are great, Ive seen the stills they are super clear.
In fact I was saving up for a Red Scarlet before they changed it and upped the price.

Im worried about Red though, they are always changing, and some of the technical aspects are weird, according to the article they kind of inflate the pixels in such a way that its not really 6k or 4k. I dunno, I wish they would come out with it.

Yeah I am waiting to see what really comes to market. THe workflow on it is definitely not for every shooter editor either. Especially if you are doing freelance stuff where they just want you to hand them a tape to edit elsewhere after a shoot.

I m using 3ds max 2008 to render my clips in mov H:264 and decreased file size .is anything wrong ?
