I'm pretty sure that is for the "brain"
To get it ready to shoot would still be about $13k

I've been checking.
Buying used Red ssd cards and other used gear to make this shootable it may be more like $8K
Not bad for a Red

yeah, its for the body and the recording card. I think you would just still need the battery system and the monitor right?

The deal they are selling is for the SSD drive not card. PLUS remember this is for a PL mount camera.... so if you don't have PL mount lenses you'll have to get a nikon mount adapter for $500 , so BEAR MINIMUM $4,000 + AC adapter $135 MEDIA PACK $975 (for 64GB or $745 for only 48GB) + RED TOUCH 5.0" LCD $1,600 = $7,210 for 64GB or $6,980 for 48GB.
Also think about that 48GB drive and just how much 4K footage it would hold. So you would need to get another if you wanted to shoot for any length of time. at $745 each.......
THe price above is for AC power.
If you want to have a Battery with charger is $550 so you could subtract the $135 above for the A/C power supply and put in the $550 for battery and charger.
Remember, RED is a modular system and none of it is cheap.
I always love there marketing such as the Scarlet for $7000
Sounds good unless you want to actually shoot something then it's more like $14,000

How about editing. Is it going to be possible to edit on a good quadcore 16gb ram machine, or would I be looking at an upgrade there also?

Probably physics, some of this stuff like avchd is so hard to edit because it is decoding/uncompressing it while processing. Hard drive speeds play a big part in editing/playback now

I bet it would be ok then as long as on a dual drive system, or using a esata connected drive.

It would also depend on the processor and video card.
I'm sure what you have would be slow but would work.
Not many Red users on Pond5. If you get one let us know how it works.
